It’s a good day for sim helicopter fans as another helicopter for Microsoft Flight Simulator has just arrived. CowanSim’s S76C++ is now out with a lengthy list of features. Let’s have a look!

Flagship helicopter

CowanSim is calling this a “flagship helicopter” release for the developer. Detailed systems modeling, custom flight dynamics, autopilot simulation, and a custom tablet interface are some of the highlight features for the S76C++.

The product also has three cabin layouts (VIP, medical, and offshore transport), removable doors, visible and animated passengers, baggage and medical patients, and blade tip lights. There are 60 included liveries and support for both PC and Xbox users.

I haven’t been able to find pricing yet but the helicopter is being sold exclusively through the Marketplace at this time so pricing will be set based on your local currency.

Learn more about the release on the CowanSim Facebook page or visit the company website. It also doesn’t hurt to visit HeliSimmer.com which has a bit more detail on the product as well.

  1. DCS needs more helicoptors, but I know easier said to say “CowanSim should work make helicoptors for DCS”, but I know it is easier said than done, and I respect that they might be happy with where they are, making addons for MSFS. But still, if someone who has expertise making helicoptors for a flight simulator platform could go over to DCS, there are many who wold appreciate it.

There doesn’t seem to be a large number of third parties chasing DCS right now. I the impression I have is that its a difficult platform to develop for while MSFS is, challenging as it might be, somewhat easier. I don’t think we’ll see CowanSim or any of the X-Plane/MSFS developers come over… but again never say never. None of them have expressed any interest that I know of.

      1. If you haven’t yet checked it out, the ASC – Enigma interview talks a lot about the challenges of DCSW development.

    2. IMHO CowanSim doesn’t have the grit or stamina to develop for DCSW at the level demanded by the players.

      1. I trust your word as you seem to know what you’re talking about. But one day I would really like to see a Bell AH-1 SuperCobra in DCS World one day. But I think I’d be waiting for years though.

  2. IIRC, it’s appx $32 US.

Unfortunately I haven’t as yet seen a single review of this chopper.

I’ll be spending time with the MH-60 for awhile, tho, so no hurry.

I’m sure it’ll be at least as good as his other work, which has been good so far.

If it reviews as well as his others, I’ll probably wait for a sale as, TBH, I remain a bit salty about his complete lack of updates for XP (and ongoing patches for MSFS, at that).
