A couple of Microsoft Flight Simulator news items coming to us with news that Sim Update 16 for MSFS 2020 is now available for download. Microsoft’s Marketplace is offering up a relatively rare sale with ‘Top-Rated Airport Sale.’ Let’s have a look!

Sim Update 16

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a Sim Update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. A lot of development time had shifted over to 2024 over the last year, however, Sim Update 16 is here with some long term focused updates that harmonize some features between 2020 and 2024 while also bringing in some specific fixes for the sim.

Core features for SU16 include an update to how the Bings Map data is handled making MSFS 2020 work in the same way that MSFS 2024 does. For end users, this shouldn’t have any immediately noticeable effects but it should smooth development for scenery devs (and Microsoft and Asobo themselves) for updates on both sims.

Xbox Series X and S users will benefit too from the improved memory management systems that have been introduced. This should reduce the number of instances of avionics screens going dark because of memory limits. I’ve already read some favourable experiences from devs and users with the update so that sounds encouraging.

Aircraft and avionics have been updated too with minor and more substantial fixes spread out across the 787-10 Dreamliner, Cessna Citation Longitude, and TBM 930 with avonics suites like the G1000, G3X, and Primus Epic 2.0 seeing updates.

A full change log is available here.
