It’s Friday and that means that we’ve got another DCS World Weekend here to dissect. Not only that as we’ve also got an update from Magnitude-3 on some recent changes to the DCS: F4U-1D Corsair that fans of that module are going to want to know about. Let’s have a look!

Core updates and Afghanistan

Released earlier this week, DCS World has been updated to DCS 2.9.19.13478 which contains a substantial list of updates and improvements.

The updates don’t really fit in any one category but are a broad list of changes such as AI tweaks to rocket attacks, heavy aircraft landing angles, aerial refueling and even changes to how AI semi-active radar employment is done (it now respects radar gimbal limits… ok!). AI targeting for SA-11, 2, and 3 launchers have been refined and SAM sites now rearm correctly. The Mission Editor also has a new search bar for unit lists to help when creating missions.

Some modules like the F-16C have seen improvements with most of those focused on the new AN/AAQ-33 ATP. The F/A-18C now has the MSI capabilities discussed a few weeks ago (though it has caveats in this implementation). The JF-17, AH-64D, OH-58D, MiG-21bis and F4U have all seen updates.

Afghanistan has been updated significantly with revised textures, terrain details, vegetation, and points of interest. We learned about that earlier in the week.

Currenthill Asset Pack

Third party developer Currenthill has seen their large asset pack consisting of several dozen vehicles, ships and a couple of aircraft added to the core of DCS World. The update notes that each asset has a highly detailed 3D model, textures, seasonal liveries, FLIR textures and LODs (level of detail).

Here’s the complete list:

  • FV101 Scorpion Light Tank
  • FV107 Scimitar CRV
  • T-90A Main Battle Tank (MBT)
  • T-90M MBT
  • T-84 Oplot-M MBT
  • T-64 Bv 2017 MBT
  • M1130 Stryker Infantry Combat Vehicle
  • M-ATV MRAP
  • BMPT Terminator MBT support vehicle
  • 9K720 Iskander SRBM (with 9M723K1)
  • M142 GMLRS MRL (with M30A1/M31 GMLRS)
  • M142 ATACMS MRL (with M39A1 ATACMS)
  • Pantsir S1 SPAAGM (with 57E6)
  • Tor M2 SHORAD (with 9M338)
  • TOS-1A MRL (with MO.1.01.04M)
  • M1083 MTV Truck
  • IRIS-T SLM LN SAM (with IRIS-T SLM)
  • IRIS-T SLM STR SAM
  • IRIS-T SLM CP SAM
  • Tu-95MS Bomber (with Kh-101 and Kh-555)
  • Mi-28N Attack Helicopter (with Ataka and Igla)
  • Project 22160 Patrol Ship with SA-15 (Tor-M2)
  • Project 22160 Patrol Ship

It sounds like additional assets may be coming down the pipe later on.

F4U updates from Magnitude 3

Third party developer Magnitude 3 report that they have made some changes to the F4U. A WEP master switch has been added, as was used in some later models of the F4U-1D. With the system on, the F4U gains considerable engine power but engine knock is possible (with sound effects) and excessive use will cause the engine to seize.

Engine timers, printed in the manual, have also been updated with realistic values.

Finally, the YE-ZB homing signal sectors have been fixed after users discovered there was a considerable offset from the published angles.
