The latest status report from PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo is out and its got some nuggets of new information surrounding various updates to their 777 series of airliners as well as some news on how the 737NG update project is going. Let’s have a look at the latest!
The 777 gets fixes, plus the sound update is coming
Most of the update this time around is focused on the most recently released Boeing 777 series for MSFS 2020 and 2024.
The first of several updates has just come out today for the 777 series if you bought them directly from PMDG. Their Ops Centre has the updates ready to go right now. Among the changes are fixes to the level of detail problems experienced by users post Sim Update 3 release. Reportedly, the LOD system was changing continually through the beta and at release the aircraft wasn’t working entirely as expected. Additional fixes are expected by the weekend so expect another quickly turned around update by then.
For Marketplace users, the wait is a bit longer. On 2020, the update should arrive next week. For 2024, its a bit of a longer wait as they track down a texture corruption problem. The 777-200LR is also heading to the Marketplace and is expected to arrive before the weekend.
Finally, the long awaited sound update for the 777 series is reportedly almost ready. Robert reports a “ton of new sound features and layers” and that the new sound environment will come to the -300ER, 200LR, and 777F in the coming weeks. The 200ER, with two extra engines included, wasn’t mentioned but may well take a bit longer due to the complexity of that setup.
How are the 737NG’s doing anyways?
With so much of the talk over recent months on the 777, the in development 747, and any scrap of news we can get on the 737MAX project it sounds like the NG has been cruising through quietly.
We have news now that the 737-800 is about to enter testing with their testing team by end of this week and that they expect a detailed program to test the aircraft. Prior updates report that the PMDG team more or less have performed a complete rework of the 737NG series and Robert alludes to a variety of updates (including opening of cockpit doors and windows). Previews are slated to come before launch. After the -800, the other variants are expected to roll out shortly after that.
PMDG have previously detailed that there will be an upgrade price for current owners moving to 2024 though they haven’t stated what the price will be. Stay tuned.
