Hot on the tail of the last A340 update, we’ve got another update from iniBuilds on the status of their in-development A340-300 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This second update is focused more on the systems of the aircraft as well as in providing some additional commentary following the first update. Let’s check it out!

Systems and features for the A340

We got a good look at what iniBuilds plans for visuals in the first update so this time around we’re learning a bit about what is behind the scenes. The airliner is making full use of the MSFS 2024 aerodynamic systems. Fuselage object implementation allows better simulation of the aircraft and its engine nacelles shape – the result according to iniBuilds is more accurate crosswind handling, sideslip and drag modelling. Using the sim’s new ground simulation system means aggressive turns will cause realistic skids and even leave skid marks on the ground.

iniBuilds report that this new project will have a custom flap and slat simulation, engine performance simulation, electrical and hydraulic as well as refinements to the fly-by-wire system that governs the aircraft. You’ll also need to perfect your flare & rotation technique through all of this because of the 340’s long fuselage Other systems will include a custom FMS with SIDs and STARs, SEC flight plans, with custom LNAV/VNAV. It will have DCDU & ACARS so you can communicate with controllers via text if the ATC system you’re using supports said feature.

One of the new features will be the onboard printer which can print flight plans, data, and weather reports right into the sim. Cool! Also included will be a revamped EFB with autosave feature off of the A340, slightly different logic for the two different cockpit display types (EIS1 and EIS2), a cabin temperature simulation, and GSX integration.

For the rest, I encourage you to visit the iniBuilds forum and check out their new status update.

Additional thoughts and hopes

The A340-300 certainly sounds like an interesting aircraft and the extra features certainly make it an interesting option. I’m hoping that a future update from the team will be focused on frame rates and system resource efficiency as the team need to show improvements from past products and the ability to match with other airliners in the industry when it comes to raw frame rate. Fingers crossed!

  1. Thanks for the summary.

  2. Well, it certainly looks gorgeous. My problem is after flying around the superb Toliss A340-600 for the last few years, I don’t know if I can “downgrade” to the -300.

Hopefully FSS does a good job of porting that into MSFS. Unfortunately it’s no more of a sure thing than iniBuilds (probably less).

  3. Honestly, I think MSFS is well overdue for a (what I am going to asume) a high fidelity A340-300. I wonder what took so long?

    1. Everyone has been busy making other aircraft presumably. We’ll have a couple of options for the 340 sooner or later so that’s interesting.

      1. Agreed. I hope even Fenix makes their own A330 and A340 families because when they do their aircraft they do a brilliant job on them.
