We’ve got a new Local Legend and a new World Update available for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The news comes just a day after the reveal that the sim would be available on PlayStation this December. Let’s check out the news!
World Updates return to Japan
World Update 1, back at the very beginning of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 release, focused in on Japan and it had lots of us exploring the updated scenery and points of interest for the first time. Some countries have been visited and revisited, however, Japan hasn’t seen as much more attention until now.
All new TIN (triangulated irregular network) has been done for Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Sapporo, and Tokyo. There are also 67 new points of interest spread out across the country covering iconic bridges, lighthouses, and castles. Five airports have also been given custom scenery treatment:
- Hokkaido Spaceport (JP-0052)
- Kitakyushu Airport (RJFR)
- Rishiri Airport (RJER)
- Sado Airport (RJSD)
- Satsuma Iōjima Airport (RJX7)

Also added are new discovery flights, famous landing challenges, a bush trip, low altitude challenge, and a rally race. The last two are MSFS 2024 specific while the bush trips are, for now, MSFS 2020 only.
This World Update is, like the others, free to everyone with the latest versions of the sim. Read about the update here!
Local Legend 22: NAMC YS-11
I’ve been working on an editorial that calls out for more turboprop airliners. Someone must have been hearing me or others who have asked for that kind of thing because here we have the iniBuilds developed NAMC YS-11 turboprop airliner!
This aircraft was produced by a Japanese consortium of companies and was introduced in March of 1965 with 182 produced over the course of its production. This is very much a classic airliner with basic systems relative to the modern digital offerings now available. That may make it more appealing to some!
The aircraft is available for purchase in the Marketplace at $19.99 USD or available as a 7-day rental at $9.99 or a 3-day rental at $6.99. Read more about it.
