Building an entirely new combat flight simulator from the ground up takes time but, as always, its great to see some progress from the Combat Pilot team. A small sneak peek at some of the latest developer work on cockpit textures has come out from the team on their Discord and I’ve got some here for you to look at.

Wildcat and Val cockpits

Tiding us over until the next full developer diary, Jason Williams (Executive Producer of the project) was on the Combat Pilot Discord sharing some images of how things are coming along with the texture job on the D3A “Val” and F4F-4 Wildcat.

Have a great weekend everyone! A few cockpit renders for to tide you over until next DD. No one has ever made Japanese planes with the detail we are putting into them.

The work does look impressive and, like with other projects, I can’t wait to see how these mature from the really important work that’s being done here into the finished versions. It’ll be great to see them up and running as Combat Pilot matures.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. It sure will be interesting to see where Combat Pilot goes once they have done Midway and the Solomons. I would like to see them go to Europe one day and do both sides of the Reich (Eastern and Western Fronts) as well as Italy and North Africa (though I think I’m getting too ahead of myself here, so I apologise for that).

Remember that they have to get there first. 🙂 Give them time!

  2. The cockpit images are beautiful. However, wear-size they look like they belong to aircraft that were built 50 years earlier. Considering that the aircraft were probably not that old (maybe even less than a year?), they look too worn. Is it just me?

    1. I do agree, that shows on the F4F, where the compass plate looks like it has been painted over 10 times. A newly-built-then-worn steel plate should look smooth, with some wear, but not bumpy at all.

This has been something that’s been talked about in many areas over the years and folks are divided on what the wear and tear on a relatively new WWII warbird would have been. Some commentary suggests that paint as it was and the intensity of operations would leave the aircraft looking quite worn in a very short period of time. Others think its overdone.

I haven’t done an in-depth analysis so I’m going to go with the artistic license and see how it turns out.

      1. I’d expect a different wear + dirt pattern for planes that are relatively new and run hard, compared to old planes that are babied.

I also thought that the plane in the CP pictures looks ancient, not run hard.

Then again, it is going to be hard to photograph a plane in war-time state, to make textures.

      2. Yeah that’s a fair comment too. I do enjoy that we can look at some fantastic work here and then really dig into the nitty gritty… that’s combat flight sim fans through and through! 🙂

    3. like to see dirt and look of used machine in cockpit and on skins, how realistic is it i dont know, but sea salt and muddy islands with not so mutch recorces should make it deuterate faster then useal i think. They can always spend more money and time and make it like slider, like it was in CloD, so player can pick fresh new look or heavy used one. Even some things i see Korea team shows as new for them was used in CloD, that game was so ahead in trying new stuff that it broke it.
