Aircraft developer Carenado has spent most of the last five years developing aircraft products for Microsoft Flight Simulator with aircraft types that have typically been piston driven general aviation options ranging from the Mooney 20R Ovation to the most recent Cessna 172 Classic. Their next project release, is something different with their take on a Beechcraft Premier IA business jet. Let’s have a look.

Higher, further, faster

Carenado have released quite a few images, including the ones you see above, over the last several days. We don’t have a good handle on the featureset yet though it holds the “RealXperience” brand mark that the company has been using to suggest a higher degree of realism than previous projects.

The jet itself has a 454 kn max cruise speed, 830 nm range, and a service ceiling of 41,000 feet so expect to be able to get in some reasonably impressive performance.

Collins Pro Line avionics are part of the MSFS family of supported avionics (most or all of them having been updated by WorkingTitle) so it’s likely to be decent in that respect. The FMS is also likely a “default” FMS though typically quite good by traditional standards and isn’t the disparaging comment that may have been made years ago.

There have been some really great business jets released over the last few years, however, they are few and far between compared to other types of aircraft so getting a Premier IA is likely to be welcome. Carenado have typically not done many aircraft in this area for MSFS, though their back catalogue has included types like these and the PC-24 and Saab 340B included in MSFS 2024 are probably similar in complexity. Both of those have had their issues so we’ll have to see how this measures up.

The company has confirmed that it will be available for MSFS 2024 first and then released for MSFS 2020 after. If past performance is an indication, it will only be a week or two after.

  1. I think this is generally great news!

Carenado have a fairly broad set of biz jets from FSX/Prepar3D, and it’d be cool to see those also brought over to MSFS! I’m sure a bunch of people would enjoy them

the fly in the ointment for me is that the Default (free) Cessna Longitude is legitimately “Study Level”, so I can’t see going for a jet that doesn’t offer better performance, or a different experience (like the Piaggio)

back in the FSX/P3D days (and Their X-Plane conversions, too!), they offered options that were otherwise unavailable, so I spent a fair amount of money with them for variety’s sake

but considering their consistently lackluster bug fixing vs what I already have for free, and I just can’t see going for their payware in MSFS

as always, I’ll keep an open mind and watch the reviews to see how good this jet turns out to be 🤙

    1. Longitude has evolved into such a good product! And also a reminder that I really should revisit it from time to time. Flight FX’s Citation X has been outstanding as well.

Carenado has ever so slightly gotten better at bug fixing and adding new features.

I was pleased to see that the Mooney M20R, one of their oldest products (it was their second release) has seen various updates over the years. They’ve added at least a few new features (like whip aerial animations/physics) and replaced the old stock passenger for MSFS dynamic ones. And it still works just fine in 2024.

I’m hoping that they keep this one up to date. A little variety in the space is a good thing for sure.
