If you’ve been following the saga of FlightSim Studios AG’s Embraer E-Jets series over these last several years, you may find yourself feeling a bit cautious about the latest news on the project. Still, there appears to be some good news possibly on the horizon. Here’s what we’ve learned in the latest update!
Testing is going well on the new FMS
FSS’ E-Jets saga takes us back to January 2023. The company launched their E-170 and E-175 aircraft onto the scene with quite a bit of fanfare and a roadmap for their early access launch. One of the core features of any airliner project is the aircraft’s systems – the FMS, the autopilot, the displays and the supporting features that govern how the aircraft climbs, cruises, and descends. Those systems weren’t quite up to the level that users were hoping to see with E-Jets and so over the last few years we’ve seen a series of status reports and updates to the product. The long awaited one, a custom FMS with full VNAV capability, has yet to arrive.
The good news at the moment is that they have dozens of testers now flying the testing version of the aircraft and the process has helped sort out bugs and issues. They report in this new update that they’ve now rebuilt the LNAV system from scratch, are busy integrating the vertical modes, and solving issues related to precision. Another round of beta testers is reportedly being called up to further the testing goals.
They say, if all goes well, that they plan to release an experimental version of the aircraft to the public by December. This group has missed milestones by large margins in the past, but benefit of the doubt, let’s hope that this will be a tremendous redemption for the series. We’ve seen it before with Aerosoft and Hans Hartman’s CRJ V2 release and E-Jets may enjoy a similar one should the road to version 1.0 finally come to pass.
