We haven’t heard from Team Fusion with an official status update in quite a long time now. Today we got one! You’ll be pleased to know that the team is still working on their Fortresses and Focke-Wulfs DLC package for IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover series.

An eventful year with ups and downs

The update coming in from Team Fusion gives us a pretty wide ranging overview of their continued efforts on the Cliffs of Dover series. One of the worst moments for the team this year has been the loss of lead modeller Tamas Mart who tragically died.

Its a tremendous loss to all who knew him and of course its also a loss of someone with specific experience with this sim and its engine. The team have had to move on and have a couple of new team members to support their efforts going forward.

Those efforts include work on the updated channel map, VR, new campaigns, and new technologies.

I know a lot of you ask about VR for this series and it has been an awfully long time in coming. Here’s the latest update straight from them:

VR beta testing is in full operation, with several updates occurring each month. Our main programmer is isolating more elements of the simulation to identify the source of VR crashes in order to create a stable VR release candidate. Meanwhile we are also looking into OpenXR as possible additional VR support.

They are also working on Tacview Recorder support, TrueSKY, SpeedTree (v8.5 replaces 5.2), new maps and aircraft.

On the maps side of things they are doing a TF 6.0 Dieppe map and then looking to return to North Africa with a Malta/Sicily map for TF 7.0.

For aircraft, we have a lengthy update that you can check out directly from the team. In summary, a few aircraft like the Typhoon Mark I are fully in while others have completed externals and are having their cockpits and other features developed.

A focus on single player is underway too. Their Finest Hour campaign is being revised with new features and details, a Battle of Britain day by day campaign with 300 historically accurate missions details that battle in minute detail, and 30+ missions are being developed around the Dieppe raid covering every angle of that ill-fated raid from 0445 to 2030 hours.

  1. Nice to get an update! I noticed Wings of Tobruk is on sale for quite a discount right now. I don’t know when I’ll have time to get around to it, but it was cheap enough to pick up and support the team in the mean time.
