PMDG has released a relatively significant update for their 777 line for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The biggest notable item is that the 777-200LR is now in the Marketplace but there are other fixes. One item still missing, for now at least, is PMDG’s planned update of the 777 soundset. Let’s have a look at what has arrived.
777 updates
The biggest news is that Marketplace buyers can now purchase the long awaited 777-200LR. This is the only version that hasn’t yet been on the Marketplace and its finally available.
The next biggest changes are across the board and affect all versions of the 777. PMDG report that they have refactored the fly-by-wire system with the goal of making it fly more like its real world counterpart. For this next part, I quote PMDG’s Mathijs Kok for a bit more of an explanation:
It retains the familiar pitch/speed interface pilots expect while leveraging fly-by-wire capabilities to enhance pitch and speed stability, resulting in a more stable and refined flight experience. It is worth noting that Boeing’s implementation of fly-by-wire differs fundamentally from Airbus’s approach. Rather than aiming for an “idealized aircraft,” Boeing’s system is designed to preserve the feel of a conventional, non-FBW airplane—albeit with enhanced performance and stability.
Other updates include improvements to the datalink, displays, cabin features, the FMS, ground operations, hydraulics and pneumatics simulation, ground handling physics, the radios and other various items. A full changelog is available in the PMDG OC3 software.
Beyond ATC integration is also ongoing thought they report that some compatibility issues are not yet resolved. Another item, not mentioned, is the updated 777 soundset. PMDG has mentioned several times through 2025 that the sounds for the 777 were going to see a significant refactoring, however, we haven’t seen that yet. No ETA either so stay tuned for more!
