Another busy day in the Flight Simulator world with the announcement that Team Fusion is now becoming a developer that will cooperate with 1C Games Studios (1CGS). Team Fusion will have access to source code and the realization of their first commercial release focused on North Africa.
Jason Williams posted this on the official IL-2 Sturmovik forums:
1C Game Studios is excited to announce that we have reached an agreement in principle to cooperate with Team Fusion on future commercial development of IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover. This includes giving Team Fusion access to the Cliffs of Dover source code so they may continue their work to fix and improve Cliffs of Dover and build commercial add-ons for the base title. Such cooperation was made possible only recently as full ownership rights to Cliffs of Dover was returned to 1C Company after many years.
Team Fusion is a MOD group that sprung up in the aftermath of the end of official development of Cliffs of Dover and has steadily grown in number and ability to modify, patch and improve Cliffs of Dover. Their efforts were unofficial and not authorized, however, they stabilized the game and enabled it to perform better than the initially crippled Cliffs of Dover release.
Cliffs of Dover and its related North Africa add-on will not be integrated into 1CGS’ IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow/Kuban efforts and will remain separate and sold on the Steam Store.
This is good news for Cliffs of Dover fans and I suspect it helps 1CGS as well, cementing it as a developer with expertise in the flight sim arena with both Team Fusion/Cliffs of Dover future development and second gen IL-2 series successfully (we hope) under one banner.
