Actung Spitfire! campaign announced for IL-2: Battle of Kuban

The team behind Fritz Life and Alberts Life, calling themselves The Syndicate, has collaborated with 1C Game Studios to release a new Scripted Campaign for IL-2: Battle of Kuban featuring the lend-lease Spitfire Vb. Pre-orders are now open and it’s coming very soon!

Campaign description, length

The announcement makes it clear that this is a relatively lengthy campaign for the Spitfire with 20-missions to dig into. Here’s the description from the product page:

Achtung Spitfire! is a 20-mission single-player Scripted Campaign featuring a fictional storyline that is inspired by historical events. Your character is a young Russian pilot from Siberia serving on the North Caucasus Front in late May 1943. The campaign features missions inspired by the Soviet 37th and 56th Armies attack on the German 44th Army Corps west of the city of Krymskaya. Your regiment will be flying the famous British-built Spitfire Mk.Vb which was loaned to the Red Air Force via the Lend Lease program. Meeting Spitfires in the skies of the Kuban region came as quite a surprise to the Luftwaffe!

You are assigned to the 57th GIAP, which was part of the 216th Mixed Aviation Division of the 4th Air Army, an elite Guards unit. Your regiment is deployed to Slavyanskaya airfield, near the town of same name. Experience fierce aerial combat in the skies above the picturesque Northern Caucasian region of the Soviet Union. Defend coastal ports on dawn patrols, escort friendly bombers over enemy territory and help suppress AAA batteries, but always be on the lookout for enemy fighters!

A sneak peek

I’ve had a chance to have a sneak peek at this campaign as The Syndicate and Jason Williams contacted me to do the trailer for the campaign. I’ve only played a few missions of the campaign so that I would have something to feature in the trailer but I thought they were great fun. I don’t want to give anything away but Achutung Spitfire! will give you the opportunity to fly the Spitfire in a variety of interesting scenarios and situations.

When will it be available?

It looks like Achtung Spitfire! will be paired with the next big patch from 1CGS for the IL-2 series. Which patch? The one aimed at a September release that will also bring four more aircraft to the series including the Mustang, Tempest, Lightning and Mitchell (AI only).

How likely is that update going to come in September? Jason answers that with the uncertainty that is typically faced during development.

Most likely, but things are always in flux. My previous comments about ETAs have been proven wrong when something goes wrong or someone gets in a car accident or gets ill etc. Our current schedule says end of Sept. I hope it holds true.

    Very nice!

I wish they would return to the rare wing-breaking DM. That was so much more realistic and – for me – enjoyable than the slightly arcade one that they now have (as shown in your video).

I’m going to have to keep this in mind for my next video as it’s come up a few times.

I put those kills in because they were the exciting ones. The one where I got a PK with the .303s wasn’t very exciting. But maybe more “realistic.”

As with most sims, the kinetic power of the Hispano 20mm is also on display so that may be leading to a slightly higher number of destroyed wings.

Never realized you did trailer work Shamrock! Looks really good!

Maybe it’s the Battle of Britain vibes, but shooting down He-111s in a spitfire has always been a guaranteed fun time. I’m looking forward to this!

Great trailer! Pre-ordered today 😀 I’m looking forward to it for several reasons. 1. it is a Spitfire 😉 2. it is a Collector Plane campaign.

Because although Blacksix said he’s not doing it because the risk is too high, the Il-2 team dares to take the step. I think, if it turns out, I will start a giveaway to support it. I hope it pays off, that could also make campaigns like the upcoming P-38 or Dora 9 possible.

I’m very hopeful that this campaign does well. It’s a Spitfire campaign after all so I think it will appeal!

Very nice trailer! It makes me want to play the campaign for sure, and it shows the different roles one should expect, well done 🙂
A few different spellings of the German word ‘Achtung’ though 😉

    Looking forward to this!

Yes, mistakenly an older version of the trailer went live instead of the newer version with fixed spelling. I’m hoping Jason can put the new one up instead.

I expect your trailer will increase sales: you should start asking for a commission 😎
