Calling it the unprecedented experience, a new third party developer is coming to DCS World with DCS: Rising Squall. This is a single player campaign that appears to aim to combine the hardcore simulation nature of DCS World together with a story driven fiction that you might find in Ace Combat. Here’s what we know about the new project.
Trailer and descriptions
Inverted Studio, behind the DCS World announcement, has put out a trailer on YouTube featuring their work in progress campaign and showing off quite a bit of DCS F/A-18C action set on the Persian Gulf and presumably using DCS: Supercarrier as well.
The trailer (and the campaign) has its own custom soundtrack put together by none other than Ace Combat soundtrack alumnus Keike Kobayashi. It also features dozens of voice actors that help put together the dramatic (or maybe melodramatic) fictional world that this campaign seeks to create.
Contained within the comments section are follow-up comments by Inverted Studio that offer some insights into their creative process. The short version is that they intend to bring the epic qualities of Ace Combat and insert that into the hardcore simulation of DCS World. It’s an interesting combination although, judging by the huge numbers of Ace Combat inspired custom skins for DCS, there’s no small amount of overlap between fans of both series.
According to Inverted Studio, the campaign is coming this winter.
The campaign has sent to ED for QA, and we are aiming for a release window this winter, fingers crossed. Between now and release, we will constantly release info about the world-setting, factions, and character backgrounds on our social media platforms, along with many posters and artworks of the project for you to see!”

I’ll be keeping an eye on this!
