I’d very much like to have written my own review for Asobo Studio’s own Junkers Ju52 release. The iconic tri-motor is part of their ‘Local Legends” series and certainly looks stunning inside and out and instead of continuing to fight with a chronic crash to desktop problem in Flight Simulator (an issue that the latest update has not cured for me) I thought for now that I’d curate a couple of reviews that I think give a good look at the product.
What are people saying?
One of my favourite reviewers is AvAngel who has done a fabulous job of reviewing quite a few aircraft in MSFS. AvAngel looks at the Ju52 with both the wheeled and float version of the aircraft. The impression is mixed saying that the aircraft feels rushed and in need of some work.
Next up, Overkill Simulations tackles the startup, taxi, flying and provides some overall first impressions. He likes the original version over the retrofit but seems to have overall positive impressions.
Into the Blue Simulations does a flight tour and review of the Ju52 by flying around Lake Como in Italy. Into the Blue was impressed with the efforts to model the cabin, electrical panel, and other features of the aircraft and felt like the price offered good value for the money.
Although I haven’t been able to find the clips in writing this round-up, there have been some videos circulating showing the aircraft when lightly loaded seems to spring up off of the ground with little effort. Like a STOL aircraft. That suggests to me that further flight model tuning is probably needed and that the Ju52 does need a little more time spent on it to really bolster its functionality.
If at some point I can write my own review, I will. I am curious to see how it compares to the Ju52 in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles. That Ju52 may not look quite as sharp as this one but it does offer an outstanding experience and flight model.
