It’s Friday and that means DCS World Weekend News is here. This week we have some less talked about modules popping back up on the radar with both Supercarrier and Yak-52 getting a mention. Of course work on the AH-64D continues too so let’s have a look.

Yak and Fw190

First up, it’s been a while since the Yak-52 or Fw190D-9 for DCS World have been in the news and yet here they are.

The Yak-52 is back in development after a significant time away. The latest updates? Work on takeoff behavior as well as inverted flight performance. Eagle Dynamics also intends to work on several other longstanding issues with the aim of bringing the Yak-52 out of early access where it has been for quite some time.

The Fw190D-9 is also getting an update. A bug that has been reported for years in the way that the engine is modeled causes shutdowns of the engine after longer flights. The update has been in testing for a while and NineLine, a community manager from Eagle Dynamics, recently tweeted an image showing off a two-hour plus flight with the engine still operating correctly. Good news!

Supercarrier!

Another module that has been on the backburner for a while is DCS: Supercarrier. Marketed as more than just a carrier deck with animated crew, we’ve long been waiting to see some of the other features of the Supercarrier arrive but it looks like they are well on their way.

In addition to the “greenboard” display which is connected to the LSO, the team is also working on the briefing board and other controls. There sounds like some more “gameplay” style features might be built in here. This is what ED has said:

We are currently working on the functionality of crew tablets where you will be able to see mission briefings as well as check and change loadouts. In addition, the briefing officer can control the projected picture that is visible on the main screen and choose what to show on the auxiliary TV screen located above his head.

AH-64D updates

I’ve been updating all week with new updates on the AH-64D and we’ve got a couple more with the focus now on the countermeasures system which includes the made-for-helicopters M206 IR Decoy Flares. And, unsurprisingly, the model detail on the countermeasures is impressive.
