A round-up of this April Fools’ Day flight sim ‘announcements’

In-case you were living under a rock yesterday, we’ve just survived another April 1st. Flight sim fans, creators, and developers traditionally have celebrated April Fool’s Day with fake announcements, alleged major shifts in programming, and all manners of goofy posts. Here are some of the ones that caught my eye over the course of the day.

Orbx’s ScentFlow

First out of the gate was Orbx and their new “ScentFlow” which alleged to have worked with specialists to create a unique scent for your Orbx scenery location.

Orbx even created a product page with an April Fool’s note at the bottom. The page will likely come down in a day or two so check it out while its still up.

Aeroplane Heaven

Well known for creating some interactive April Fool’s experiences, Aeroplane Heaven today unleashed this abomination of a Corsair and Thunderbolt screwed together in the most plausible yet wacky way possible. The keyboard, PlayStation controller and old school monitor in the cockpit just seals the deal.

These folks also created a product page and even made the aircraft available for download for a few days. So get while the getting is good!

IndiaFoxtEcho DCS: Aerogallo

IndiaFoxtEcho had a bit of fun this year too with the “announcement” of DCS: Aerogallo. Gallo means rooster in Italian so aerogallo just really fits together nicely. This isn’t quite as silly as you might think as someone actually really did make a drone and flew it in real life. Ok, its still pretty silly!

Chuck’s Guides “New Beginnings”

Chuck, the guy behind Chuck’s Guides took to Reddit this year in his usual fashion with an announcement of “New Beginnings” and a list of new guides such as his guide to Flight Sim Bingo. There are some real gems in there so be sure to check out the embedded Reddit post.

RedKite goes ASMR

And then YouTuber “RedKite” took to Reddit as well to announce a major direction shift for his change over to tactical switch pressing flight sim hardware ASMR. Autonomous sensory meridian response if you don’t know is that spine tingly relaxing feeling that some people get listening to music or hearing certain sounds. There are entire channels devoted to noises that can provoke an ASMR response… So RedKite is going in on ASMR for flight simmers. For April Fool’s anyways!

I’m sure there are more

These are just the ones that caught my eye during the day. What did you see out there for April Fool’s Day? Let me know in the comments!

Sort of flight sim related, for the game Enlisted, a Lunar Campaign where you fight the remnants of the Third Reich on the Moon was announced which is ‘available to play’

To be fair, the P-47 / F4U-1 mashup could be mistaken for an FG-2 (Pacific 1946 FTW!) from some angles.

I remember both that version of AotP and that specific variant of the Corsair. Yeah you could squint just a bit and see an FG-2.

Although what we have is some sort of monstermash 😀
