With so much excitement on the DCS: AH-64D you’d be forgiven for forgetting about some other excellent helicopters also present in DCS World. Fortunately Eagle Dynamics is still working on other projects including the DCS: Mi-24P which is receiving several updates. The AH-64D is still in the news with a new livery competition and the DCS: F-14 is getting a new campaign.

Mi-24 updates

A series of updates are coming to the Mi-24P in a future DCS World Open beta patch. Coming soon is the MK-2 magnetic declination adjustment system. The co-pilot/gunner will dial in approach variation to get the true heading. Petrovich AI has also been trained to do this automatically.

New keybinds are coming and have been added for all radios. Separate keybinds for the weapons selector have also been added.

Bugs are also being squashed such as the ATGM selector panel and the rockets side selector bug – these were apparently desyncing in multiplayer. The same goes for Heading AP channel and the trim system for pedals.

More exciting to me is news that the next development report will detail what they are doing to add the R-60 air-to-air missile to the Mi-24. This will add some interesting capabilities for the helicopter in both the counter-air role as well as in ground attack. R-60s were famously used in the Soviet-Afghanistan conflict to attack hot ground targets.

Livery contest for the Apache

Skin artists may want to check out this new competition from Eagle Dynamics. Your livery must be created using the official template, be based on current or historical schemes for any AH-64 variant, and be associated with one of the countries already present in DCS World. The top ten submissions will have their work featured in DCS World and they will get an Eagle Dynamics module of their choice as a prize.

Not a bad little detail for the artistically inclined and I know we have many out there!

Operation Sandworm

DCS: F-14 pilots have a new single player campaign for them to check out. Operation Sandworm puts you in the Persian Gulf in a hypothetical 1998 campaign. With tensions rising and a conflict with Iran brewing, the 9th Aviation Wing of the US Navy is sent to the region.

The campaign is reported as being in development and coming soon.
