A new IL-2 series developer diary is out and this time we’re getting our first look at Sopwith Snipe and Siemens-Schuckert D.IV. These are Collector Planes intended for use with Flying Circus. Let’s have a look!

Final fighters

As the first World War ground to a close, new fighter designs were still being churned out at an impressive rate. Among those designs would be the Sopwith Snipe and the Siemens-Schuckert D.IV. Fast, well armed, and aimed at improving on past designs, these two should represent the best of what was possible in a WWI-era fighter design.

Now, we’re getting a really good look at what 1CGS and Ugra Media have been up to while building these aircraft. The Snipe is reportedly nearly finished on the exterior with the cockpit still underway. Meanwhile the Siemens-Schuckert D.IV is still in development but the 3D model looks like its coming along.

Here’s the Snipe.

And the Siemens-Schuckert D.IV looks good too.

More screenshots and the full developer diary update are available here!

  1. If we are focusing on only what is the best new plane set for FC its indeed those two uber planes. that is a point I always wrote down on the RoFforum. I only hope Ugramedia can make for VR users: an realistic cockpit, avoid fuzziness and avoid thin sheet looking rims. Not saying all are a bit low in quality.

Not really sure what you’re saying here. What are “thin sheet looking rims”? What is fuzziness?

  2. Shouldn’t the “Lift here” instructions be on the underside of the wings though?… I’ll get my coat

  3. The Siemens Schuckert D.IV has the absolute wildest rotory engine ever. They geared it in such a way that the engine rotates one way and the propeller rotates the other way at, I think, a reduced RPM.

    Really nuts setup.

Going to be interesting to see how the Snipe is.

Yeah that sounds like a hilarious idea and I’m curious to see what it’s like.

    2. Technically the engine and propeller turm in the same direction but the crankshaft rotates in opposition.

      1. Just while it springs to mind, I think the confusion is with the BMW 801 series where the cooling fan and propeller counter-rotated.

      2. I do love that the engine is even trippier than I thought it was…

  4. Just wanted to point out that some time ago Aerobask has been making the plane of the Red Baron available for free.

Yea they did make the Fokker Dr.I free. It’s not bad but it doesn’t have anything to do 😀

  5. […] Let’s talk about the background of what we’ve just learned so that this all makes sense. A member of the IL-2 forum asked when the Sopwith Snipe and Siemens-Schuckert D.IV will go up for pre-order sales. These two Collector Planes for Flying Circus Vol 2 represent the first entirely new aircraft for the Flying Circus series (the rest have been remastered from their appearances in Rise of Flight) and Ugra Media are working at bringing them to life together with the 1CGS team. We saw an update with screenshots of the in-development models just a couple of weeks ago. […]
