First look at the Sopwith Snipe and Siemens-Schuckert D.IV

A new IL-2 series developer diary is out and this time we’re getting our first look at Sopwith Snipe and Siemens-Schuckert D.IV. These are Collector Planes intended for use with Flying Circus. Let’s have a look!

Final fighters

As the first World War ground to a close, new fighter designs were still being churned out at an impressive rate. Among those designs would be the Sopwith Snipe and the Siemens-Schuckert D.IV. Fast, well armed, and aimed at improving on past designs, these two should represent the best of what was possible in a WWI-era fighter design.

Now, we’re getting a really good look at what 1CGS and Ugra Media have been up to while building these aircraft. The Snipe is reportedly nearly finished on the exterior with the cockpit still underway. Meanwhile the Siemens-Schuckert D.IV is still in development but the 3D model looks like its coming along.

    If we are focusing on only what is the best new plane set for FC its indeed those two uber planes. that is a point I always wrote down on the RoFforum. I only hope Ugramedia can make for VR users: an realistic cockpit, avoid fuzziness and avoid thin sheet looking rims. Not saying all are a bit low in quality.

    The Siemens Schuckert D.IV has the absolute wildest rotory engine ever. They geared it in such a way that the engine rotates one way and the propeller rotates the other way at, I think, a reduced RPM.

    Really nuts setup.

    Going to be interesting to see how the Snipe is.

      Technically the engine and propeller turm in the same direction but the crankshaft rotates in opposition.

        Just while it springs to mind, I think the confusion is with the BMW 801 series where the cooling fan and propeller counter-rotated.
