PMDG 737-700 release is imminent

Fans of PMDG’s 737 won’t have to wait too much longer as we have news that the PMDG 737-700 is now up for release. With that information we have dates, pricing, and a plan for future updates. Let’s have a look!

Here comes the 737

The long wait is nearly is over for 737 fans as a highly detailed version of Boeing’s successful airliner is now on final approach for release into Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Let’s start with the release date. PMDG reports in a recently released FAQ that the new aircraft will arrive between 1700Z and 2359Z on May 9th. The initial release will take place on the PMDG webstore only with the aircraft planned to come to the marketplace slightly later on. The report from PMDG’s Robert Randazzo is that the process is much quicker than it used to be with the DC-6.

There will be promotional pricing with the 737-700 coming in at $69.99 USD on release with the price rising to a standard price of $74.99 USD. This will apparently not happen until the 737-600 releases so you’ll have a bit of time to jump in with the promo price. The 737-700 and -800 are expected to command the same price. The -600 they say will approximately be $50 USD. The -900 is not yet priced.

The approximatelyed timeline for these aircraft goes as follows:

  • 737-700 releases on May 9, 2022
  • 737-600 is likely to release on June 20, 2022
  • 737-800 is likely to release on August 1, 2022
  • 737-900 is likely to release on September 12, 2022

PMDG 737NGXu for Prepar3D who purchased between November and December 2019 qualify for their move-up program. More on that in the FAQ.

There’s also a note that bundle pricing is not anticipated over the short term and will likely not start until mid or late 2023.

PMDG have also put out a video talking about the product as a whole while showing it off in its release state. There’s talk about textures, sounds, systems, and simulation and even some encouragement for newer sim pilots to jump in and enjoy. It’s a good primer if you want the short version of what PMDG is about to unleash into MSFS.

So, come May 9, if you’re ready to jump in with PMDG’s 737-700 then head on over to the PMDG storefront and get ready for their promo priced airliner and then stay tuned for additional releases after that.

    $97Cdn. That’s not free. on the other hand I paid more than that for the DCS A-10CII, so I guess it’s all relative.

    The 737 isn’t my style of plane, but I do enjoy reading about how impressive others find some of these planes to be.

      I’d put some of these high end airliners up in the same complexity level as the DCS: A-10C II and some of the other DCS modules that contain a wide variety of systems and features. This is the civil equivalent to be sure so the pricing doesn’t strike me as being too far off.

      And yeah the A-10C is more my style too than the 737 although I may end up picking up at least one variant so I can review it. That may be a ways out as I’ve got quite a few MSFS aircraft I want to review.

        As I was saying, I’m not really into these planes other than to fly them briefly and superficially, but I enjoy the reviews.

        And because I’m a PITA and maybe you have to pay for some of the stuff you review… don’t forget the coffee. 🙂

        I had just gotten in to P3D (for warbirds and other military aircraft) when that PMDG 2 for 1 sale came out. I figured I’d bite just to see what all the hubub about premium “study level” airliners was about.

        Coming from X-Plane’s Zibo and several other good payware airliners, I wasn’t expecting much of a difference.

        I was pleasantly surprised by the PMDG NGXu and between it and the other truly Hi Fi addons available, P3D became my go-to civ sim for awhile.

        Not having flown either, how does the PMDG product compare to the Zibo. There’s a considerable amount of positive things that have been said about the Zibo but I don’t know how the comparison is playing out. Any sense of it?

      Total Cost of Ownership in DCS is actually a lot cheaper due to the fact that we don’t have to pay for the simulator itself 🙂

      As a litmus test, what’s gonna be interesting is to see how many of the “serious” YouTubers will switch from primarily X-Plane to MSFS now that Leonardo and PMDG are out, with Fenix’s A320 launching in “days”.

    I was really expecting a price in excess of USD$100, so am kind of relieved. I will not be buying more than one of them though, and fortunately, having spent my career in BBJ’s, the initial release suits me to a T. Roll on Tuesday.

    A PMDG airliner – one of the best addons ever produced for fligh simulation – is about to have it’s price of entry slashed from $100 to $50!
    And what cost me $160 in P3D is only gonna cost $70 in FS 2020!

    “Such a DEAL…!” as they say 🙂

    (I’ll still spend way more time in DCS, but this is gonna be GREAT!)

    I’m not enough of an expert to pick apart the differences, but in my experience, both are accurate representations, with the Zibo having been steadily improved over the years, whereas the PMDG was mostly done in terms of functionality a long time ago.

    Which is to say that if you’re happy with the Zibo in X-Plane, there’s pretty much no reason to run out and buy the PMDG. The differences in the simulators themselves are the deciding factor.

      That sounds pretty good then. There are folks who are all about just one of the sims and so for the MSFS folks the PMDG option will no doubt be popular.

      Their servers crashing tonight seems to indicate that there was a huge amount of popularity.
