The arrival of the Mosquito FB.VI for IL-2 Battle of Normandy has been long awaited and its finally here. Update 4.705 brings with it the iconic British twin engine aircraft along with a variety of fixes. Let’s have a look!
Mosquito and more
The highlight feature here is, of course, the release of the Battle of Normandy Mosquito FB.VI. This fighter-bomber variant of the famous Mosquito was used for a variety of operations both at night and during the day. It’s array of eight guns including four 20mm Hispano cannons in the nose offer a potent punch against anything infront while a decent top speed and heavy bomb and rocket firepower make this a dangerous aircraft.
1CGS also have given us the 57mm armed “Tse Tse” Mosquito variant. Look forward to doing some anti-shipping operations with that.
There are other updates included as well. Balloons now have collidable tethers. Fire effect of collapsed buildings has been improved. Ship and vehicle gunners have had some updates and ship gunners now have improved firing arcs.
The AI has seen some tweaks to their ground attack behavior and will cease firing at targets faster as they pull off of the target.
There are also a bunch of small stability fixes and other quality of life enhancements.
Check out the full patch notes here and get to flying that Mosquito!
I’ve just had a quick play around with the Mossie and she’s surprisingly nimble!
Maybe I’m missing something but it looks like there’s duplication of some of the weapon options in her modification list.

I thought so too at first. Double check the ammo amounts for the Hispano cannons. That’ll probably account for it.

I tried out the Mosquito last night. My main plane is the Spit IX, so it is any easy adjust from that as far as engine management goes. The Mossie can fight if needed. It can climb, it can turn, but it bleeds energy like crazy. I couldn’t blackout in a turn. As soon as you start to grey it has lost too much speed to continue. I fought against it too. Avoid head on passes if you go against it, those four central 20mm cannons are nasty. It will definitely make a fun raider. I’ve got some more to say specifically regarding air to air, but I’ll wait for your review, and see where we gel.

It’s definitely a great aircraft. I’m a bit backlogged but a review will be definitely forthcoming!

21. The sim won’t randomly crash on mission start or end or adjusting responsiveness curves of Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick;
22. Hopefully, the old issue of TrackIR causing stutters when used together with Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick should be gone;
I have been waiting for this for years!!!
Can’t wait to try it out with my modified MSFF2!

Enjoyed the airfield attack scenario but when trying to do a take off, left spinning around, wether tail wheel locked or not. Have the same problem with the HS 129, need some lessons. Also did Ju88 v Mossie & vice versa, even stevens at the moment

Make sure you have a finger on that brake lever and make small corrections as you start to roll down the runway.
