MSFS world update returns to the US, plus Beech 18 release

There’s no rule that says that Microsoft Flight Simulator’s world updates can’t retread over familiar ground. World Update X is exactly that as the series goes back to the United States adding even more points of interest, photogrammetry and improved imagery across the country. And that’s not all, the next Local Legend is the magnificent Beechcraft Model 18 and it’s available today. Let’s have a look!

Beech Model 18 is in the marketplace

The fifth Local Legend is out. The Beechcraft Model 18 first flew in 1937, over 9,000 were built, and over 200 still fly. Powered by twin Wasp Junior radial engines, the sleek Model 18 can do 196 knots and cover 1,200 miles of range.

Microsoft is packing 10 liveries with this aircraft including a special historic Navy, Aviator’s Club, Xbox Aviator’s Club, plus 7 other liveries. It’s on sale now in the Marketplace for $15.99 USD. Read the announcement here!

World Update X: US and Territories

Going back to the United States, World Update X is focused on further enhancing the scenery around the US. Several cities are given a 3D photogrammetry makeover. They include San Diego, CA, Albany, NY, Key Largo, FL, Seattle, WA, and Olympia, WA.

There are also 87 new points of interest, 3 new airport landing challenges, three discovery flights and three discovery trips as well as four new custom crafted airports. They are:

  • Catalina (KAVX) on California’s storied Catalina Island
  • Valdez (PAVD) in the gorgeous Alaska landscape
  • Lake Tahoe (KTVL) in the towering Sierra Nevadas of California
  • Block Island (KBID) on Rhode Island’s historic East coast

      I wish they could simulate all the good food and good times I’ve had in Toronto! 😉

      And it’d be just lovely to have the Canadian Rockies and Pac NW area enhanced, too.

    I’m still just gobsmacked that the pending 40th anniversary edition is going to include the iniBuilds A310 for free (AND all the other high fidelity former-Payware aircraft)!

    As I think about it, though, it makes me wonder why I’d buy another payware Airbus between that and the FlyByWire A320. It’s really got to be causing a LOT of angst amongst 3rd party devs for the precedent it sets…

    And at least to me, the A310 – and the other hi fi birds included – are not just a shot, but a full broadside, across X-Plane’s bow.

    Thanks for the update. For me it’s a bit surprising that the US would get round 2 and yet still no update for Canada. I’m still hopeful that the Beaver that was teased will perhaps tie-into a Canada World Update soon.
    All that said, Washington state is a great place to fly and I was glad to see it’s been reworked.
