IL-2 introducing custom input profiles in next update

A new feature is coming to the IL-2 Great Battles Series in the next update. Custom Input profiles. In this week’s Developer Diary we learned more about the feature and what you can do with it. Let’s have a look!

Set your custom profiles

Rise of Flight fans will remember that sim’s custom input profile which can be toggled on a per-plane basis if necessary. You still have the ability to set controls at a global level or you can choose to give just one airplane a custom setup.

In Rise of Flight, this was common with certain airplanes like the Fokker Dr. I with its pronounced nose-up attitude as you could set the stick to be further forward as its default resting position (working with a spring controlled desktop joystick for example).

Wow, I had lost hope on this feature. It’s huge and a gamechanger to me, finally putting and end to the ancient IL-2 family curse of terrible button mapping !

I really hope after the Custom input profiles are added the devs can focus on fixing the following… but still work on Normandy: instantly killed when parachuting into water and when ditching into an open field, ground looping and a wing hitting a building at a very slow speed, and planes exploding after a few hits.
This game is starting to become more of an arcade game — almost to a point where even IL-2 1946 and CFS3 are better (ditching in a field for the latter) — and the devs have remained completely silent about these issues despite the community explaining them in a calm and collective manner.
I would understand if the devs responded to these issues but stopped responding as the community became very whiny that they’re still not fixed, but since they have been completely silent about them then this has become quite frustrating.

  There are always frustrations with simulation. For e.g., I’m dissatisfied with a number of things across the various sims and modules that I own (it’s a looooong list, so I won’t bore with it).
  
  The key to enjoyment for me is to never depend on just one sim, or module/addon, or scenario. And always to keep in mind what the core purpose of each game/addon is.
  
  It’s definitely a (deliberate) Glass-Half-Full perspective…
  
  So for IL2 BoX and Flying Circus, the air combat experience, particularly in multiplayer, combined with the ever improving visual quality of the sim gives a highly immersive experience (ESPECIALLY in VR) that is arguably one of the best available.
  
  When I’m in a furball, I’m just having too much fun to worry about simplified ground handling/takeoffs/landings, et al
  
  That’s the core experience, and 1CGS delivers!
