PWCG will support Battle of Normandy soon

Pat Wilson’s Campaign Generator (PWCG) will soon support IL-2: Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy. Here are some details that Pat has talked about recently.

Normandy support

IL-2: Battle of Normandy has a very good career/campaign generator built in, but many in the community also find Pat Wilson’s Campaign generator to be a good supplement or even replacement.

The latest update from Pat suggests that progress is moving along well. In it, he talks about some of the things that he’s adding to the campaign that will extend the experience beyond Normandy,

Quick update.  I have the maps, front lines, squadron airfield assignments, special events, landings, target preferences by date, and a bunch of other stuff done.  Running tests right now to work out the kinks.  Example: there are no British Dunkirk era tanks in the game, so I am using the BT-7 to stand in as a cruiser.  I switch to the Sherman in mid 1942 for Dieppe.

As you can probably surmise, PWCG will support a multi-year campaign experience that goes from the beginning of the war right to the end of the Normandy campaign. There are some aircraft substitutions needed to make the whole thing work but, judging by the comments, it seems like most people won’t be too put off by that.

Pat has given us all of the possible campaign options:

  • Dunkirk
  • BoB anti shipping phase
  • BoB airfield phase
  • BoB city phase
  • Dieppe
  • Start of American bombing
  • Normandy landings
  • Carentan
  • Cobra
  • Goodwood
  • Mortain
  • Falaise

Sounds like a pretty good list!

I have been waiting for this announcement, and secretly hoping that we could do a “Battle of Britain” era campaign, even though the spitfires are later model. I am fine with making due.
