Set your calendar for DCS World 2023 and beyond?

Hot off the presses with this one folks. Eagle Dynamics has revealed via Facebook that their ‘DCS World 2023 and beyond’ trailer is coming up on January 4th. Here’s what we can expect!

Get ready for 2023 and beyond

For the last several years have released a highlight trailer that showcases everything great about DCS World while teasing new projects, features, and visuals. Eagle Dynamics have tapped Glowing Amraam, their premier trailer maker, to produce these videos and they feature a mix of artistic shots, dramatic music, high octane DCS World flight sim action, and a bunch of teases for new content.

These trailers tend to be called by their year of release and beyond for a reason – much of what gets showcased is either already on tap in DCS World or is coming in some future update that may or may not be in 2023.

Look at the 2022 and Beyond trailer to get a taste of what we might expect!

So with that in mind here’s what you can expect. I’m sure we’ll see more of the same theme with a mix of high action, exciting trailer music, and a personalized voice over message from Eagle Dynamics co-founder Nick Grey.

In addition to the usual array of current modules I’m also expecting we’ll see quite a bit of RAZBAM’s F-15E Strike Eagle. This module looks to be rounding the bend for release and its surely functional enough at this point for trailer purposes even if its release date is a long way away. Aerges upcoming F1 variants are probably also going to be on tap even if they just flash past.

I also anticipate that we may see a big reveal of Heatblur’s F-4 Phantom. Two are silhouetted in the teaser image and the jet was anticipated for 2022 release before various troubles hit the team. Although it may still be months away from release, like the F-15E I suspect its close enough to get trailer treatment. Perhaps with a prominent appearance. Also in the teaser are the pyramids from DCS: Sinai map which I also expect will get quite a bit of attention. The map has already been previewed by Spudknocker so this seems likely!

Some other projects revealed this year are likely not far enough along to reveal, however, you never know. The A-1 Skyraider was already featured in a reveal previously. Perhaps Magnitude 3’s recently previewed F4U Corsair might too. We’ve also seen the A-6 Intruder from Heatblur get a special treatment in their Reach for the Skies trailer from back in February. That module is still quite a ways away from release but it may get a fair bit of attention despite the long lead.

Other modules are possible too!

New teasers?

In addition to the slate of things that we know about, DCS World 2023 and beyond trailers are nearly always fodder for some sort of teaser. In previous years the AH-64D was teased, so was the F-16C Viper, and then in 2022 we had the F-4 and a still somewhat ambiguous tease with grid coordinates suggesting either an Afghanistan map or a C-130.

What we see this year will be very interesting. Will Eagle Dynamics reveal any new internal projects? We haven’t heard from them for a bit on any ED specific content pieces although we know they still have a 1944 era Marianas Islands still in the works. Perhaps we’ll see that and some sort of Pacific reveal teased at some point.

Anyone care to speculate on what we might yet see? I’m sure many of us will tune in on the release date and you can bet that Stormbirds will have full coverage once it has released. Stay tuned for that!

So unbelievably excited. Betting 2 doubloons that we get an F-4 release date estimate next week as well!

Jason Williams joining the team to lead work on a full WWII PTO product, as well as career modes and a QMB for DCS? I can dream, right?

I think you should dream for something better. I’m not working for DCS. 🙂

Why don’t you get the Benchmark Simulation guys and convince MicroProse to fund a new flight simulator in Unreal Engine 5? Is that dreaming big enough?

I saw a lot of emphasis on tanks, makes me think of the Combined Arms module.

While I am excited about DCS trailer too, figured I would place this here Shamrock, BMS 4.37 trailer is out. As a trailer, one of their less impressive ones since this isn’t a big graphics update or even a lot of new features, but shows history and roadmap.
    4.37 on release will add:
    VR support
New UI (this was actually a very heavy lift, it has taken a lot to move past it)
    ECM support of mtie ECMs
And new F-15C that interestingly enough taking a page from ED is a WIP

The video also lays out the future roadmap of full F-15C detail, new terrain engine, future physics based rendering

alltough not a big fan of the WW2 aurcraft, I think a Japanese WW2 aircraft is missing, to fight in the Marinas map properly, so maybe they announce a Mitsubishi Zero?

That would be good. The inability or unwillingness of anyone to get to WWII in the Pacific is a giant let down. Be very happy to see DCS go there.

Leatherneck Sims, who is bringing the F4U, will also release an Essex carrier to go with it, has shown several Japanese vehicles in-game, and has teased a wireframe of a Zero!

I think with the pending Marianas WW2 map, odds are very good that PTO is legitimately coming to DCS 🙂

  6. Please give us ballpark dates for the updated 3D engine AND multi-threading

      That’d be nice!

A little clarity on the Afghanistan coordinates would be welcome. Other than that, I’m definitely hoping for a previously unannounced module reveal – Apache went GREAT, so would like to see another well done module coming soon-ish.

Somebody has to blink first and commit to a ww2 Pacific map. Maybe this year we see something more substantial? The Corsair can’t dogfight itself!
