If you’ve got a bit of a competitive streak going and you love World War I kites, the recently announced ‘Flight Club’ might be just the thing you’re looking for.
e-Sports for Flying Circus
Organized by the Flying Circus multiplayer community, group organizers have made an announcement earlier in the week that their group would be hosting an ongoing e-Sports series featuring ranked matches and regular competitions making use of Flying Circus aircraft from the IL-2: Great Battles Series.
Here’s what they had to say:
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Flight Club, IL2’s first E-Sports series. Quite simply, Flight Club is a dueling league in which players gain or lose points based on their performances in ranked matches (similar to common Elo ranking systems). Pilots of all experience levels are welcome and encouraged to join!!! Matchmaking is score-based and pilots will be placed into various Divisions based on their score. The conclusion of each Flight Club season will be marked by a tournament for each Division. Because each Division is based on accumulated score, every player, regardless of experience level, will theoretically be able to compete for the gold medal. Although 1v1 competitions will be the blue ribbon event, Flight Club will also include 2v2 fights. The 1v1 and 2v2 events will be included in the season ending tournaments.
Matches will be flown exclusively using First World War fighters. The simplistic and close-in nature of WW1 dogfights lends well to intense and competitive fights. Despite the lack of WWII aircraft in this E-Sports series, we believe that this will be an excellent opportunity for all members of the IL2 community to demonstrate their dogfighting skills on a level playing field. We hope to include prizes for the winners of all Divisional tournaments.
Matches will be organized on this Flight Club Discord Server, and they will be conducted on the Flugpark Duel & Dogfight server. Match rules can be found in the corresponding channel below.
We have put many months of planning and brainstorming into this project, and we hope it will give the IL2 community at large an exciting new twist.
See you in the skies!
The Flight Club Team
It sounds like an interesting challenge. If you’re interested, the group have created a series specific ‘Flight Club’ Discord server to launch from and everyone is also encouraged to join the Flugpark Discord community as well.
Don’t recall ever having played it online.

Never ever? There’s a great community there and I used to fly online frequently. Sure taught me a thing or ten about biplane flying.

Well thanks, both. When rig is running I’ll try and dust off my gauntlets.
I recall RoF with old squad, laughing so hard I could barely see.
