Stormbirds turns seven!

I had no idea when I started out on this journey that I’d be writing an article seven years later marking a seventh anniversary for this blog. But here we are. Stormbirds turns seven today!

Looking back, looking forward

On big anniversaries its always good to take stock of where we’re at where things are going. Stormbirds, a writing project turned into something much bigger, continues onwards with as much news and editorial content that I can write. These days, there’s a ton of flight sim news!

Over the years I’ve expanded the reach of Stormbirds by quite a bit and sought to cover more subject areas over the time. What started as mostly IL-2 and a bit of DCS World has really changed over the years as I’ve expanded into X-Plane and then Microsoft Flight Simulator.

This year I’ve got plenty of reviews planned for aircraft and content. I’m also hoping to provide more product previews where possible too. Flight Journals continue to be popular and I love documenting some of my flights so you can be sure that those will stay in the mix. I’ve got more jets, more helicopters, more warbirds, and even a few airliners hopefully lined up to be talked about so there’s no shortage of things to explore.

I have, admittedly, neglected the podcast side of things over the last 12-months. These take a lot of time to get together and when you aren’t doing them all the time they tend to be larger efforts than when you do them on the regular.

On the other hand, I have embraced more YouTube content recently with more gameplay experiences expressed via video. That’s not to say that Stormbirds is becoming a YouTube channel but I do think that video can be used alongside written content to tell a more complete story at times.

In short, I’m still having fun, making content, and soaking up what is an incredible time to be a flight simmer. I remain convinced that we’re in the middle of a golden age and although we’re seeing some disruption in the industry right now, I think we’ll land in a pretty great place over the next few years.

Thank you

Stormbirds does not happen in a vacuum. I want to thank a lot of people for keeping this project going together with me. I want to first thank my Patreon subscribers for your ongoing support. Each and every one of you help make the content flow and keep Stormbirds going. This year the blog is costing a bit more to operate as the site grows in content and so your support helps makes this work.

I somehow stumbled upon this blog via the “Microprose is Back?” article from a few years back and it has since become my most-read and most-enjoyed site. Keep up the great work!
