The folks at Heatblur have a talent for picking some truly iconic and long sought after aircraft to develop for DCS World. The F-14 and F-4 are prime examples (although the cult following of the Viggen does run against the trend just a bit) of extremely anticipated types. The same can be said for the A-6E and today we got a very small update plus a couple of screenshots. We like those! Let’s have a look!

It’s news tidbit time

The first bit of news that Heatblur is confirming is that the AI version of the A-6E is coming this summer.

Some of you may remember that this part of the project is or was originally part of the DCS: F-14 announcement from four years ago that Heatblur called “shoulder to shoulder.” A reference, no doubt, about the combined carrier forces that included the F-14 and A-6 as significant components of the carrier strike wing. It was only later that Heatblur officially confirmed that the A-6 would be a later development of a full module on its own.

Watch the 2018 ‘shoulder to shoulder’ video where the A-6 AI was first revealed.

Heatblur also talked briefly today about the ongoing work to develop the fully flyable DCS: A-6E. Unsurprisingly, the type will benefit from the current efforts for DCS: F-4E, Jester Reborn (aka version 2.0), new wear & tear features, and, in their words “much more.”

Development of the DCS: A-6E will reportedly proceed in parallel with DCS: Eurofighter. This is unsurprising too as the TrueGrit team, in partnership with Heatblur, are bringing that to life.

The announcement appeared earlier today on their Facebook page. Check it out!

  1. Not sure how much work an AI model takes, but this is bound to be a very nice AI module for sure.

I assume it will be free. I mean, will we get to the point where individual AI planes are paid modules?

Yes I’d expect it will be free. Almost no question as that’s it’s initial value. Then it will pave the way for the folks who want to fly one – that part will be paid as usual.

Will all slot into the core of DCS World.

It’s an interesting way to build a Full Fidelity module, and build hype but also keep it under control 🙂

I wonder if it’ll have any special/upgraded AI logic or flight model (not sure that’s possible) as that’d make it far more enticing as an AI.

In any case, I know we’re quite a ways off on this, but i’m truly looking forward to it, and all the other carrier aircraft coming our way in the meantime 🙂

  4. An AI version will be welcome. I will definitely be up for purchasing a flyable A-6E from Heatblur.

  5. “The AI version of the A-6E will be added to DCS this summer;”…
“Expect to learn much more once we fully unveil our Phantom.”…

I’m interested if this means we will see a full unveiling of the F-4 this summer? That would certainly put it sooner than the current estimates which are late fall/early winter. Fingers crossed!

Unknown. I’ve speculated a lot in the past but it never comes out when I’m thinking it will.

Summer? Maybe! Fall? Could be! ☺️
