The latest update for IL-2 Great Battles is here with version 5.104 arriving alongside a new paid scripted campaign as well as a variety of new mission types for career mode. Let’s have a look at the latest!

Sky Nomads, new missions

Black Six’s latest Scripted Campaign for the IL-2 series has arrived together with some other updates to the IL-2: Great Battles Series with version 5.104.

The campaign follows 43rd IAP which had to change locations frequently during the pitched battles of the Kuban campaign. You’ll fly the Yak-7B across 15 missions with an average play time of 8 hours according to the store profile.

The campaign is currently available for $7.99 USD introductory rate with $9.99 USD being the standard price. Check it out here or on Steam.

Meanwhile, Career mode gets an update too with several new mission types: photo reconnaissance, artillery spotting, transport aircraft airdrop escort missions. Photo recce missions are available for the Ar234 Sonderkommando Götz in Normandy for now with promises that some Spitfire XIVe squadrons will get the ability to do that in the next update. Meanwhile, artillery spotting is available for RAF squadrons No. 26 and No. 63 flying the Spitfire Vb over Normandy. Transport missions will be mixed in around the timeframes of the Normandy, Market Garden, Bastogne, and Varsity airborne operations.

Also included in the update information are the winners of WarBRD Race 2023 as well as a new July Calendar graphic. Check it all out here.

  1. Hope we get high altitude bombers eventually… We have high alt 109, Me-262 and now T-152H but no heavy bombers. Either it’s a sign they will come or incredibly strange company decision.

I’m not optimistic that we’ll see a heavy bomber added to the series. I do think that their aircraft decisions right now are based on popularity (perhaps business analytics from the forum) and how easy it is to build for a portion of the team while the rest of the artistic and programmer team work on their next gen product (whatever it is).

  2. I did the unthinkable the other week. I uninstalled il2. The game that got me back into flight sims.

I can’t see a way forward for this game. Could you imagine with the current climate inside Russia these guys putting up a western focussed module?

That’s if they could get the investment.

I know where you’re coming from. I started writing Stormbirds because of IL-2 Great Battles. I still play it a bit and I still write news stories from time to time but my focus has been shifting elsewhere.

The current climate is very challenging… I’ll leave it at that.
