The latest sale for the IL-2 Sturmovik series is on with the 2023 Summer Sale. Here are the details that you might want to know about.

Update: Fixed a link and clarified the Steam sale situation.

Summer sale

With up to 75% off on a wide variety of items, the IL-2 Summer Sale has arrived with discounts on nearly everything in the store. You can find 75% off on everything except for Battle of Normandy and some of the recently released Collector Planes which nonetheless have smaller discounts applied.

For Flying Circus fans, Vol 1 has the full 75% off discount while Vol 2 remains newer and with a smaller but still notable discount.

Check out the sales on the IL-2 official webstore. It’s expected that similar sales will become available for the Steam summer sale beginning at 10 am PDT.

Pricing for the IL-2 series has been a complaint point for about a decade now although the prices have only increased by about $10 USD on recent releases.

I would agree with Flying Circus Vol 3 offering a poorer value proposition versus the earlier versions as there are fewer overall aircraft. On the whole it seems to be priced at the going market rate.

Contrary to some information out there, Rise of Flight to Flying Circus does require quite a bit of work. Remastered textures takes time, as does the 3D model work, and I’m told quite a bit of the integration into the sim needs to be done. They have more or less copied over the old flight model saving quite a bit of time but even there there have been tweaks.

I’m not fully following the argument here. I would suggest that if you prefer Rise of Flight over Flying Circus that there’s lots of great reasons to stick with the older sim. It’s a real gem.

If you do want the new features, the better cloud technology, better lighting, dynamic vehicle damage visuals, 64bit support, tactical codes and VR support, then Flying Circus is the way to go.

There’s some clear options and great simming to be had either way.

I believe this screenshot was taken either in the quick mission builder or during one of the anti-shipping missions on Combat Box.

I wouldn’t advise anyone going bankrupt while enjoying this hobby.
