A couple of updates to report on from the folks at Sim Works Studios. Their weekly updates provide great insight into the development progress and over the last couple of weeks we’ve seen some great updates including our first look at the Kodiak 900 and some great new images and details of the PC-12.

PC-12 exterior is done!

It’s always good news for those of us waiting patiently for an exciting new aircraft to arrive when we hear that something is done. The exterior model for the PC-12 is now officially done according to SWS and the cockpit is expected to follow soon after – perhaps as early as next week.

Two new liveries have been added including N881TW from private charter company Tradewind. Fly 7, a company that SWS has worked with, is the next livery featuring OH-FUK (Ed note: Yes… giggle away!) which is apparently a favourite within the SWS team. It’s a beautiful scheme to be sure!

A close-up of that livery also shows the fine detailing of the aircraft’s rivets which SWS confirm are all matched to real world diagrams. The ‘pillowing effect’ that enables you see them in this shot will be toned down in keeping with the PC-12’s extremely smooth skin.

There’s also a great shot of the interior in commuter configuration.

A public Trello board is now available for everyone to see how the project is progressing. It includes additional images such as this teaser of the cockpit. It also confirms that the cockpit has full custom lighting, Executive, Commuter, and Cargo variants, animated armrests, drawers and doors, passengers, baggage and cargo in the cabin. It’s what you’d expect given the team’s reputation!

First look at the Kodiak 900

Last week the team also showed off their work on the exterior model of the Kodiak 900. The model is complete and the next step is for it to be implemented into the simulator. The team report that the high commonality between the Kodiak 900 and the Kodiak 100 mean that their team will be able to rapidly implement the new airplane and time will be spent refining the Kodiak 900 as its implemented.

SimWorks Studio’s Kodiak 100 is among my favourite MSFS aircraft of all time and getting the latest and greatest model of the Kodiak should be very interesting to experience.

TBM announcement

Although Microsoft Flight Simulator already has a pretty decent Daher TBM, SimWorks Studios is looking to one up the default aircraft and has announced that they will be creating a TBM 850, 910 and 960 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The 910 and 960 will take advantage of the sim’s default G1000 and G3000 systems while the TBM850’s EFIS50 is very similar to the one in the PC-12 meaning that they expect development will be quick on that type’s avionics.

It’ll be interesting to see the team tackle these aircraft next!

Keep an eye on the SimWorks Studio’s Facebook page for further updates.
