The third volume of the Flying Circus series for the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series is now officially on sale today in conjunction with the release of Update 5.105 and the Halberstadt D.II and Nieuport 11. The latest update also brings with it some WWII oriented updates too so be sure to check out the patch notes.

Flying Circus Vol 3 starts early access now

Now on sale in the official IL-2 store, Flying Circus Vol. 3 is now officially in early access together with the release of its first two aircraft. Vol 3 continues the re-release of Rise of Flight aircraft rehabilitated for the modern engine. That aircraft list includes.

  • Albatros D.II
  • Halberstadt D.II (released today)
  • Nieuport 11.C1 (released today)
  • Nieuport 17.C1
  • Nieuport 17.C1 (Royal Flying Corps version)
  • Hanriot HD.1
  • R.E.8.
  • F.E.2b

The other six aircraft will be released over the course of the early access period which is expected to end sometime late this year or perhaps early next year.

Volume 3 includes access to the Western Front map which is expected to gain additional details over the course of the development period.

The regular price is $79.99 USD with an early access discount dropping the price to $59.99 USD.

Other updates in 5.105

Although this update is largely a celebration of the launch of Flying Circus Vol 3, there are some other updates packaged here that may interest WWII flyers. Photo recon missions for the Ar234 have been added to the Bodenplatte campaign for the Sonderkommando Sperling group. Martin =ICDP= Catney has also contributed updated external textures for the Fw190A-3, A-5, A-6 and A-8 as well as some paint scheme corrections for the Spitfire Mark IXe, P-47D-22, and D-28.

Sky Nomads has been updated and the difficult first mission has been tuned slightly. Spanish and French translations have also been added.

The updated ShVAK cannon sounds have been reverted to the older sounds. This apparently by popular demand. New sounds will apparently be reworked to fit the “overall acoustic concept” according to the patch notes.

The next update is already underway and is apparently set to bring us the Li-2 and possibly other new announced aircraft – the specifics which remain vague. The WACO CG-4A, La-5 Series 38 and IAR 80/81 have all been in the works and are expected this year.

  1. Love the official artwork but $80 regular for 8 planes when $50 regular gets you 8 planes is a rip-off, sorry.

It’s appears to offer less value. It’s worth mentioning that the Nieuport 18 is basically offered twice. I know there are some differences but that’ll be a bit of a tougher sell.

  2. Nieuport 17, old chap.

In a moment of whimsy I bought it and FC II. Do we know whether the gap between the Arras and Verdun maps will be filled? I recall that it was suggested maybe in Vol. 4

Basically, I bought it for the 2-seaters and to be sporting. The N.11 and HD.II are fun but nothing to write home about.

  3. If I own Volume 1 and 2 will I require Volume 3 to get the full map?

I’m not 100% sure on this but it seems like the map is now shared across all three products. I’ll try and seek some clarity on that just to be sure.

      1. Think the clarification about the full map would be great.
Like to know as a disappointing FC1 owner, is this FC3 an improvement, (specific to VR use), or is it still on the same FC1 level. Like the bad made 2D no-man’s land, sterile environment, fuzzy looking wings or the bad VR interior of some of the WW1 planes.

  4. With FC3 you get an additional map which comprises the area between the maps in FC1 and FC2. Also supposed to include 4 seasons and additional details in the overall map. Can also fly a campaign spaning 1916/1917/1918. If you like FC1&2 3 seems like a no brainer. I just ordered it. FCx is not perfect but it is a lot of fun and about the only option out there for WW1 simmers that is not hopelessly outdated.

Hi JL. I’m not sure about that with the map. It will be developed but likely available to everyone because it’s all on one map. Quite unlike the scenario we see with the rest of Great Battles.
