I’ve been pretty excited about what the future might hold for Combat Pilot, a WWII Pacific-based air combat sim announced on Stormbirds a few months ago (read the full reveal and interview here). Now, we’ve reached a notable milestone with the first developer diary. Let’s have a look!
This is the beginning
The first developer diary for Combat Pilot is here with Executive Producer Jason Williams, a veteran producer in the combat flight sim market, giving us our first look at what the team is busy putting together.
Jason reports that the team are busy building assets and core systems for the new sim. Flight and systems modeling are underway while other parts of the team are building the infrastructure and defenses for Midway island. Aircraft assets are also being built with the Mitsubishi A6M2 Type 0 Model 21 taking center stage for this first update.
Several screenshots of this key Japanese Navy carrier-borne fighter have been shared with even more in the diary. The exterior model is just a render for now but we can see some of the work underway.

There’s also an update showing off the US 250lb GP bomb that will be carried by the F4F Wildcat. This bomb is further along than the A6M and includes detailed texturing. The details here give us a good sense of what the team is aiming for with their assets and even small details on what is a relatively small munition appear well detailed.
