There’s DCS news floating around and I’m here to try and collect it and scoop it up. This week’s DCS World Weekend Newsletter arrives with some great news for Mi-8 pilots, a developer update on the Mi-24P, an announcement that the Hind is getting a paid campaign, and there’s a Heatblur video that came out today that is attracting a bit of attention. Here’s what you need to know!

DCS: Mi-8MTV2 gets multicrew

Long a hoped for and requested feature, DCS: Mi-MTV2 joins the DCS: UH-1H as two legacy helicopters that are now equipped with multiplayer multi-crew capabilities. This feature has already been released in the latest open beta so you can hop on and try it right now if you want to.

Four positions including the three cockpit crew as well as side gunner are available.

Mi-24P updates and new campaign

Eagle Dynamics are set to add the 3D pilot model to the DCS: Mi-24P cockpit soon. These are optional figures that you can view from the first person camera inside the cockpit and are often requested by VR users who want to “see their body” in the cockpit.

We have new screenshots as well as a description of how Eagle Dynamics bring these to life involving modeling the pilots and then placing and animating the crews.

Meanwhile the Mi-24 gets more to do thanks to a new single player campaign now available in the e-Shop. DCS: Mi-24P The Border – Prequel Campaign intersects with “The border” campaign for Mi-8MTV2 with this one focused on a small two helicopter detachment of Mi-24s flying a scenario in the Caucasus region in 2015.

The Border – Prequel Campaign by Armen Murazyan retails for $13.99 USD on the store.

Glimpses of F-4 and Typhoon

Heatblur have released a video on Instagram showing off their slate of modules for DCS World set to some appropriately high octane music. Although the majority of the content is featuring their current slate of modules, the F-4 and the Typhoon both make a showing which is notable for fans of both modules. The F-4 is still expected sometime this year while the Typhoon is still sometime further away.

Of course there’s more details to be had so be sure to visit the latest DCS World Weekend Newsletter for more info.

  1. All good news! LOTS of great work going on.

Hoping Hip & Huey get visual updates someday – love those modules, but they need a “buff” 🙂

Seeing most of HeatBlurs work in one video kinda blows my mind how far they’ve come in a relatively short time.
(Someday A-6 so I can role-play from my USN days as a swabby in an Intruder squadron) 🙂

  2. I am still intregued as to how Typhoon can be ‘done’ to a particular specification. The Tranche 1 is simply not that useful while rhe early Tranche 2 Software Release Package 8 (which was the first, somewhat rushed, upgrade for Tranche 2 largely to satisfy Saudi) is only a amall improvement in capability in terms of munitions. It can take Meteor but at a very basic level. A2G is mostly Paveway.

But, SRP 8 is far more modern than most of the current fast jets and should absolutely rule the roost. I am unsure how much BAE ans co really want to diverge about it as examples are still in service. By comparison the US jets are currently a long way ahead in terms of software vs. the sim examples.

    Maybe a hybrid?

Yeah I’m really not sure and its been a while since we’ve heard very much about the product and what challenges they’ve overcome for modeling.

It may very well emerge a bit like the Strike Eagle with Tranche 1 capabilities first and then add extra things in later.

      1. Yep. Just checked. It will be as you said a Tr.1 then a cherry-picked Tr.2 possibly with Meteor and some form of pod for a range of Paveways. It is cleared for AGM-65s and I think the Germans planned to use HARMs but I have never seen any mounted. All the other A2G os very new and likely too secret.

        Statement from the developer: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/294027-typhoon-version/

A2G enthusiasts may fight it a little disappointing.
