A couple of new updates have come from Aerosoft in recent days giving us the latest insight into their Airbus A330-300 project for Microsoft Flight Simulator. There’s work on the autopilot and on various systems, animations, audio and more. Let’s have a look!

A330 work continues

One of the things that these development snapshots do is give us a good overview of what Aerosoft still need to do with their A330 project. There are plenty of items that they are still programming and still optimizing before the jet can release – and that’s probably a good sign as Aerosoft do need to make a more positive splash with this release after the challenges of the first two.

Their most recent snapshot, released yesterday, shows a plot of the autopilot system not doing exactly what it needs to be. The caption reads: “We are currently working on the autopilot. Remember: don’t drink and fly!”

I appreciate the humour and the admittance that the autopilot isn’t quite there yet with it weaving back and forth trying to maintain course. Problems like this have cropped up on other products before and so solving this prior to release will be one of those key things.

Other work includes various systems and instrument work. There’s a lot of acronym city here but I am pleased to read a line that they were able to solve an MCDU freeze when entering a duplicate waypoint. Their CRJ currently freezes when entering certain combinations of waypoints, an issue not yet resolved, and so I hope that they are able to sidestep problems like that with the A330. Is it too much to hope that they fix that in the CRJ too? Hopefully so!

Other updates include plenty of optimizations, stability improvements, display issues, and even audio issues such as rain noises needing some tuning.

Read the whole update over here.

  1. Keeping a close eye on this one. There are lots of outstanding ‘buses out there for both MSFS and XP. In fact, out of every Airbus model ever made, I think the 330 is the only one we don’t have a study-level version of for current gen.

They have a lot to measure up to and not exactly a spotless record, so I’ll wait for the reviews with cautious optimism.

  2. […] The status update goes on to talk a bit more about the nuts and bolts of the custom FMS and autopilot. The short version is that the team have taken their development of that outside of the sim environment to develop it more quickly before integrating it later on. They also show how some of the programming is not yet there with the autopilot following nav information incorrectly. Similar, yet different, from what Aerosoft had to say about their A330’s own autopilot woes. […]
