The latest update for DCS World came out yesterday and with it some new features and fixes across the board. This is a fairly notable one with it enabling the F-15E’s JDAMs for the first time, bringing out the Mi-24’s new single player campaign, fixing the boost gauge issue with the Spitfire IX and more. A new firezone feature for the AH-64D has also been revealed in a new video – that feature is coming soon. Let’s check it all out!

Highlights

A whole bunch of updates have arrived with the latest DCS World Open Beta update. There are some highlights that stand out so let’s go through some of the key items that have been updated.

One of the biggest is the updates that have come from RAZBAM to the DCS: F-15E. Updated damage textures, updated cockpit textures, compressed textures and liveries to reduce drive space (down from 10.5 GB to 6.3 GB), and various fixes to the Nav Pod, radio, and RWR. That’s not all because this update brings with it access to the JDAMs and the Smart Weapons Page and Smart Weapons Release symbology for the HUD.

JDAM types covered right now are the GBU-31, 38, and 54. That last one is the modern dual-mode laser JDAM. You can carry up to four of the 2000lb GBU-31 and six of the 500lb GBU-38 and 54.

RAZBAM does report that the weapon implementation is still a work in progress and so multi-crew doesn’t have full synchronization with them yet.

The F-16, F/A-18, AH-64, JF-17 and A-10C II all saw fixes to minor issues while the Mi-24P picked up a couple of fixes as well as the implementation of the new pilot models and the addition of the “Revanche” campaign. The Spitfire IX also, notably, saw its boost gauge fixed. Good! Also, those weird looking AI models for the S-3, B-1,and B-52? They’ve seen some revisions too although they are still not quite looking the way I expected them to.

The MB-339 from IndiaFoxtEcho saw several fixes too with one notable one, the lack of LODs (or levels of detail), have now been solved which means better performance potentially for everyone. They’ve also added joystick trigger options for those with detents, added a gunsight repeater, gun camera, and new animations.

Aerges have updated the Mirage F1 with corrected roll and yaw issues, added wingrock for high angles of attack, improved buffeting behaviour, fixed mirrors, canopy bugs, revised the kneeboard information and added control axis for various selectors and options. They’ve also added quick start missions for Persian Gulf, Normandy and The Channel.

Ugra Media’s updates to Normandy 2.0, talked about here, are now out with several new airports added. Those are: Biggin Hill, Manston, Detling, Lympne, Abbeville Drucat, Merville Calonne, Saint-Omer Longuenesse – Wizernes.

Finally, DCS: South Atlantic has received a series of significant updates. A new surface mesh aimed at improving the look of the map and especially the mountains is a big item. There’s also a lot of tweaks to different areas, additions to ground clutter, and more towns have been added to the map.

The full list of changes is available here.

New Fire Zones feature coming to AH-64

Matt Wagner is back with another DCS World video and this time its all about Fire Zones on the AH-64D. The zones allow for members of your datalinked network to establish zones of fire with Priority Fire Zones (PFZs) and No Fire Zones (NFZs).

Check out the video to see this upcoming feature.

One response to “DCS World update brings new features to F-15E, Mi-24, AH-64, others”

  1. Love those JDAMs in the Strike Eagle. Now it feels like a real precision strike aircraft. Great fun to use the fancy radar(s) and JDAMs in zero visibility. Looking forward to more fancy kinds of “kaboom!”
