Working away on their DCS: MiG-17 project, Red Star Simulations has provided an end of year status update on their efforts to date. We have information about the status of the project and new screenshots so lets have a look!

The latest on the DCS: MiG-17

Looking back on their efforts to date, Red Star Simulations have given us some sense of where their DCS: MiG-17 project is at. They report that flight dynamics and cockpit model and texturing are both at better than 95% complete. Great news for sure! There is still work to be done too as the external 3D model and texturing is at 60% and systems are at 15%.

The update also fills us in on the workings of the MiG-17’s gunsight. This includes the ASP-4N gunsight and SRD-1M radio range finder. The gunsight can be operated in a fixed mode, in a gyro mode, and in a gun radar mode where the SRD-1 gun radar can be used to track a target and provide a gun tracking solution. In the gyro mode the gun can be tuned only for the NR-23 cannons while in the gun radar mode a toggle can switch between a firing solution for either the NR-23 or the N-37 cannon.

Fascinating stuff. Be sure to read the full update over here on Facebook.

  1. Given the Dev’s IRL pilot experience and intense focus on flight model, this one can’t come soon enough.

Engima’s interview with them earlier in the year was really something special when it came to them describing how the flight model and engine worked. Very excited for this one.
