Aircraft developer COWS has just released their Diamond DA42 Twin Star for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s have a look!

High fidelity trainer

Going by the marketing material, COWS have developed their MSFS DA42 with as realistic a simulation of the real aircraft as possible. The intent appears to be the creation of an aircraft detailed enough for real world training. Aiming at a high mark in a marketplace increasingly filled with some excellent options.

Boasting bespoke avionics modelling, detailed flight model with unique DA42 quirks (such as a slight bump when the gear is extended), detailed sound set and engine damage modeling, this does seem to be a highly detailed rendition of the aircraft.

Both the DA42 VI and TDI versions of the aircraft are available in the package.

The aircraft is available from Orbx’s online store for $46.25 AUD or about $30 USD.

The developer is also aiming to release an X-Plane version of the aircraft sometime later in the year.

  1. it was originally an X-Plane project. I wonder if it was easier to get it to market in MSFS or they switched gears for the much larger financial reward.

not to mention that in XP there is already direct competition from Aerobasks version.

I hope they do actually bring it out for XP (perhaps it can also become part of a certified IRL training system).

in any case, it’s getting rave reviews from purchasers and already being called one of the best add-ons in all of MSFS.

happy for the devs, and us!

    1. It was indeed and it looks like they still intend to bring the aircraft to the sim. It sounds like they want to make something more deeply modeled than the Aerobask one though I’m not sure how much more deeply they can go – the Aerobask one is already excellent except for maybe anything missing from Laminar’s G1000 setup.
