A new developer update for the IL-2 series shows off one of the next up Collector Planes – the Ta 152H. Let’s have a look!

Ultimate Focke-Wulf preview

We’ve got a new update from the folks at 1CGS and its focused on an upcoming Collector Plane that they say will release in the summer of this year. That plane is the late war Ta152H-1.

The Ta-152H-1 is one of the last Fw190 designs of the war which saw limited production and use in the closing months of WWII. As you may be able to guess from the design, the Ta152H-1 was intended for high altitude operations against American bomber formations – a pre-emptive answer to the possibility that the B-29 Superfortress would be deployed in Europe. As it went, the B-29 did not see combat over Europe and the Ta152H were used in limited amounts of typically low altitude combat instead.

The aircraft is being modeled with a Jumo-213E engine that will have access to both MW50 (water methanol) and GM-1 (nitrous oxide) for low and high altitude boost. That together with the huge wings, the twin 20mm (MG151/20) and 30mm (MK108) cannons should make for an interesting aircraft.

The Ta152H-1 has rarely shown up in WWII combat series though it is, of course, in War Thunder and the H-0 made an appearance in the original IL-2 Sturmovik series. Some of its unique flying characteristics have never really been captured in my experience so I’m curious to see what 1CGS is able to do with this one.

  1. This is what IL2 needs – more interesting planes. Not a 12th variant of the 109, but something new or at least bordering on new. It should be like the old IL2 with all kinds of planes from everywhere. And where are the AI heavy bombers? All these years and still no B-17 or Lancaster. The sim needs imagination.

It’s true on all accounts! We won’t see those heavy bombers for Great Battles alas…

    2. Noooo! Not more late war planes (especially short-production run oddities) lets have more early war stuff! What about a Buffalo, a Curtis 75/P36 or a Polikarpov I15

That’s why I mentioned the I-153 in the article. That incoming too.

  2. The Ta-152 will be fun to fly, but useless for the game without Allied heavy bombers to attack or Allied fighters defending those bombers. Instead it’ll loiter at low altitudes, like most of its adversaries.

In some ways that’ll match the history of the aircraft which never got a chance to perform the job it was intended for. Instead spending most of its time at low altitude.

  3. Not to be a shill here, I don’t think I’ll get the Ta-152. Don’t get me wrong I really like the Ta-152 it’s just I haven’t been liking the reasoning for some decisions and some recent collector variants that would be good to have but aren’t worth $20 each and would rather see other planes so I’m going to be very selective on what I buy now unfortunately. The WACO glider was a massive disappointment for me as there’s barely any SP content for it and certainly not worth $20; I rather would have seen the A-20G or a flyable B-25 with just the cockpit modelled over the G-6A/S and WACO. With the devs’ reason for not doing Sicily because it’s too urban, don’t know where they’re coming from on that because Naples and Rome wouldn’t be required. This once great game has now sunken into a coarse era to the point where I am more excited for Combat Pilot and IL-2 Dover series (CloD). Yes for the latter there was 2 year wait for what we’d get in TF 6.0 but then within a few months we got all these details for upcoming installments to the point where we know more about what we’ll get in the next 4 installments by almost a longshot than in the “new project”.

These things just make Jason’s departure from 1CGS very noticeable. I would love to be proven wrong and a great miracle to happen for GBs but I feel it’s going to take a while for our love of the game to get back to what it was before the release of BoN and likely earlier than that.

I’d have loved to see an A-20G. It would have been a change from the model we have but less of a challenge than doing a whole new type. I get that they are focused on the future but yeah if it were me… I’d be going that way.
