This past weekend I did my first flight in PMDG’s 737 in quite some time and it was a retread of the first full flight I did with the airplane about a year ago. I was even prepared to write a flight journal about it, however, midway through the flight the whole sim stopped. Turns out, its a known problem with the current versions of PMDG’s 737 line-up and a fix is coming Friday.
TCAS related crashing bug
User forums have been discussing the issue this week with many honing in on PMDG’s 737 TCAS (Traffic collision avoidance system) as the source of the crash bug. It, together with some other stability issues are being targeted by PMDG with an update planned for Friday.
The update was significant enough for PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo to provide a separate update to the PMDG forums. Here’s what he said:
It is important to be clear that this is a stability update that carries a number of changes that are specifically designed to improve stability of operation, but few-if-any changes that are unrelated to stability. Areas that received attention include memory use, TCAS target handling, system initialization on scenario loading, a few drawing functions and some data parsing routines. Effectively, we have been focused on some very technical areas to provide greater protection against issues that might disrupt your flight and thus your enjoyment.

So there you have it, TCAS and other memory use items are the primary focus of the update. Look for that to come through on the PMDG Operations Center tomorrow. It may take a couple of weeks for the update to hit the Marketplace and somewhat longer for Xbox.
