DCS: La-7 being finalized for early access

According to the latest DCS World Weekend update, OctopusG is in the process of finalizing the DCS: La-7 for early access release.

According to the update, DCS: La-7 is being finalized for release with the damage and flight models now complete. So too is the manual and the 2D art assets for the aircraft as well. All finishing touches ahead of the La-7’s release into early access.

The update touts the aircraft’s accurate handling and flight modeling with special note for the aerodynamic complexities involved with the aircraft’s radiator shutter system with disturbed airflow along the wing root causing a slight reduction in lift.

We’ve also got a couple of videos that show off the aircraft’s capabilities in air to ground bombing missions and its canopy opening mechanisms. Neither appear to be new but they are a nice reminder of how the module is looking.

The update also reports that a variety of liveries including several Russian markings as well as Czech and unmarked will be available.

    I wonder if it will be pushed out on the quick to keep everyone quiet about the Phantom being delayed?

    I loved this plane in IL2, but not sure about getting it. At least not right away.

      Definitely uncertain. On one hand, Octopus G has been showing the La-7 off in some pretty clearly almost ready to go videos for a while now but then on the other hand there is a bit of a delay for the F-4 it looks like. Waiting on some comments from Heatblur to provide an update on that…

      i can’t think of a pending release that would overshadow the Phantom. Especially not some warbird (much as I love them).

      The ones that could possibly do it are so far down the road as to not factor.

      and even then, even for people like me that don’t really care about it, it’s still one of those magical aircraft who’s mystique means it stands in no shadow.

    Sadly with no planeset or map it would make any (historical) sense in. Which is also kinda the case with all WW2 modules in DCS come to think of it.

      Definitely a sandbox situation. I understand that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it. Give me any plane from any period and a map of the north pole, I’ll find something fun to do with it.

      its only sad if we limit ourselves to strictly following historical scripts.

      I prefer the adventure of making the best use of what we have, regardless of the resultant limitations.

      And it all could have been true if history had gone just a little differently.

      In the end we get to fly the best simulations of combat aircraft ever created, with realism that, other that full motion cockpits, is nearly as good as reality.

      This is far better than it’s ever been before – which is reason to be HAPPY 😁

        The release of another highly detailed plane is of course not something to be sad about. However I can’t help but lament the limitation to simulated campaign scenarios this motley collection brings – after all a big part of the allure these planes have comes from the historical period and context that begat them.

        In the case of Soviet WW2 aircraft, I think that is a bit of a stretch given that the only maps of the appropriate era are located in France/England. That’s quite far off even for alt-history scenarios.

    I’m looking forward to it. There are enough “playmates” now that it works (FW’s, BF for WW2, as well as allied warbirds, such as P-51 & F-4U for Korea). Plenty of alt history scenarios with early cold war, including middle east conflicts. WW2 eastern Europe or 1950’s Korea maps would be great, but its really secondary to the flying and the competition in the air. Until then Caucasus is fine, as well as any any others…

    I’m really looking forward to this one. A Soviet plane in DCS really helps my transition from IL2 to fully DCS. Yes, I know we would need an LA-5[something] to be accurate in the Kuban area, and the buildings etc are 30-80 years too modern, but I’ll make do. The Lavochkins and the Yak-9s are my fav redfor planes in IL2 (also War Thunder, but I don’t go there anymore – I’ll say nothing further out of shame :D).

    A full fidelity LA-7 model is something for this ‘Warbirds First’ weirdo to celebrate.

    PS – it would be nice if the airfield/aerodrome ATC radio instructions and assistance could be modified for the appropriate period. For me, this is a bigger hit to my immersion than the buildings and towns. I naively assume this would be relatively simple to implement but ED just haven’t had the time.
