Released earlier this month, Miltech’s CH-47 Chinook helicopter is now available on multiple storefronts. Here’s what you need to know!
Heavy lift helicopter for MSFS
One of those aircraft with enduring appeal is the Boeing (originally developed by Vertol) CH-47 Chinkook. First flown in 1961, the CH-47 continues on into the modern day and over 1,200 of the heavy lift transport choppers have been built to date and production continues. This is the subject of Miltech’s recently released CH-47 for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Features of the Miltech CH-47D include 4K textures with realistic damage and dirt maps, animated cargo doors, ramp, rotating tandem rotors, and blade droop. There are 13 liveries featuring schemes from multiple real world operators. Sounds are drawn from real CH-47s including distinct blade slap based on collective and pitch/roll angle. Systems include functional TACAN, ADF and VOR nav systems. Future updates plan to incorporate PMS GTN750 and TDS GTNXi support for those who want them.
The aircraft also comes packaged with 6 external cargo loads, 5 internal cargo loads and an EFB to manage loads, fueling, and other aircraft systems. There’s also a mission system with a mission dispatch system that includes firefighting, cargo hoist, rescue and humanitarian missions and even military exercises.
The aircraft also bundles in a collection of scenery:
- RAF Odiham EGVO (UK), home of the No. 7, 18 and 27 squadrons.
- Bryant Airfield PAFR (Alaska), home of the Army Alaska Task Force CH47s.
- Chabelley Airfield HDCH (Djibouti), a growing US Military Base, is key for the stability of the Horn of Africa region.
- Camp Resilience US01 (Jordan), is a fictional military outpost serving as base for Army CH47s.
- Al Sahra Base US02 (Kuwait), is a fictional military outpost serving as base for Army CH47s.
- Multiple small training facilities, exercise scenes, and rescue scenes.
One feature that is not shipping at release is native support for MSFS’ upcoming dual rotor system. Asobo and Microsoft are going to be updating the sim to offer native support for the dual rotor configuration. Once that feature has become available, Miltech plan to update their flight model to support the new feature.
