We’ve got a new developer update from the 1C Game Studios team and this one is mostly focused on upcoming feature additions in the next update. These features include some notable and welcome updates to the advanced quick mission builder system and they include some significant new features for Tank Crew operators as well.

New mission types, Tank support

Advanced Quick Mission Generator for IL-2 Great Battles is getting some new features and some significant ones if you’re a Tank Crew owner in particular.

New mission types for pilots will include glider towing on Normandy and Rhineland maps as well as artillery spotting and balloon defense for the Western Front WWI map. Nice!

The bigger news is that there will now be a Ground Forces AQM component added to the Prokhorovka map – the one that came with Tank Crew. This will give us a bunch of mission types that you can then participate in. They include:

  • Strongpoint Defense
  • Enemy Strongpoint Attack
  • Breakthrough
  • Enemy Rear Area Attack

You’ll be able to set initial conditions too such as strength of the opposing forces and air support levels.

Other updates

There are some other notable updates mentioned that are coming along to the sim as well. Corrections to the distance that enemy aircraft can be heard are coming, a longstanding issue for the community that it sounds like we’re going to see sorted out. There’s also updates for Lightning Strikes, Havoc over the Kuban, and Hell Hawks over the Bulge scripted campaigns – though the details are vague.

Community created Scripted Campaigns are also getting integrated into the sim too. Kerch-Eltigen Operation and Battle of the Hürtgenwald are going to be included into the sim with the permission of their authors. Nice to see great community content recognized!

There’s also a multiplayer releated competition now underway where the best tracks of in-game multiplayer action can be sent in with the winners receiving a Collector Plane of their choice. Check it and other details out right over here!

  1. The cooperation with infantry and artillery is so badly needed as prior1, in this sterile tank game. After that they could do what they like on minor, nice to have, things.

  2. The QMB is kind of okay, but…

    God forbid IL2 ever includes a friendly in-game mission editor… like the ones in almost every other flightsim made over the past 20 years. It’s so inane. They simply refuse to do so. Kind of like selling more interesting planes, like a Hellcat or a Corsair, they know people would line up to buy them but they refuse to make them. They are so locked into a single way of thinking.

    Might be part of why IL2 gets looked at with a skeptical eye by many flyers.

    1. The editor isnt that hard to master. I have alot of fun with it. And I like it alot more than the arma editor for example.

      1. I tried ARMA. I can see that it could be a lot of fun, but I haven’t got enough free brain cells to get into it and still manage DCS and MSFS.

        Hopefully one day IL2 will figure it out.
