PMDG’s getting folks excited about their impending 777 release with a trailer and a release of some new information showing off their new tablet interface for the jet. Let’s have a look!

Official trailer

The trailer above is a cinematic showcase of PMDG’s 777 giving us glimpses of a lot of different aspects of the aircraft. The engines, the wing flex (looking much better here than on their 737s), the tablet interface, the landing gear, broad sweeping shots of the fuselage and cockpit, and I think you get the picture. It’s worth a watch!

The tablet and “the thing”

Meanwhile, an update from PMDG’s Mathijs Kok gives us a look at the 777’s EFB tablet (UFT in PMDG parlance) interface. It’s packing in quite a few more features than the implementation currently in place on their 737 series.

The new tablet interface includes a full flight plan system, even without Navigraph, and controls for various doors and services. PMDG appear to have done a lot to make sure that the aircraft can also be serviced. There’s also “the thing” (Adam’s Family reference no doubt) with a floating hand which might be a bit divisive from what I’m reading but it does play a role in letting you position the tablet in what are apparently four different locations in the cockpit.

All in all this looks like a good move forward for the PMDG tablet. I don’t see panel state controls here which I am very much hoping PMDG can match up with the competition but otherwise I see a lot to like. I especially like the enhanced map features sans need for NaviGraph. A good nod to a wide range of virtual pilots.

PMDG have previously announced that the PMDG 777-300ER is coming in a window between June 25 and 30. No pricing has yet been revealed.

  1. This looks like a great plane, but still not sure about getting it soon.

My brain is focused on the Chinook, hopefully next week. 🙂

Lots of great stuff coming out right now. It probably won’t be going away any time soon so you can always purchase it later!
