The folks at Aerosoft have just dropped a brief update on their A330 project with some status overviews of what is done and what is still to be done on the project. It seems like they are also slightly adjusting course on what project support will be for MSFS 2020 and 2024 which should please some. Let’s have a look.

Status update

The status update provides a brief history of the project including the heritage of it coming from the A330 that the company did for Prepar3D. Migrating to the new sim they say provided some benefits as they were able to use some legacy work for programming logic but other things required additional effort to bring it up to MSFS standards.

What follows are a series of charts showing the A330ceo and A330neo (with Rolls Royce, GE, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce again with the neo) models all being complete, general systems and flight model being anywhere from 80-100% complete depending on the model and sounds being anywhere from 30% complete on the A330neo to 90% complete on the Rolls Royce A330ceo variant. Autopilot appears to still be a major feature that needs work with 30% completion.

MSFS 2020 and 2024 support?

The last piece of the update is a bit more circumspect. Back in January they announced a delay to the project and that they were planning to release the airplane around MSFS 2024. That statement in itself caused some confusion as many assumed then that the project would release for 2024 only. Today’s update seems to pull that back a bit or attempt to clarify it… though not completely.

Today they are saying that the will be releasing the A330 for MSFS 2024. Good! They say that as soon as they have access to a beta, they will begin testing for the new sim. Also good! Then they say, and I’m paraphrasing slightly, that its conceivable to release the A330 for MSFS2020 with a free update to 2024 in advance. That sort of makes sense. Then they double down, thankfully, and say that there will be a MSFS 2020 version. Alright!

So it looks like Aerosoft are confirming then that their product will release for both versions of the sim and that there will be a free upgrade path from 2020 to 2024.

How this all shakes out with the other A330ceo that appears to have been created by iniBuilds and that will be included in MSFS remains to be seen. Aerosoft’s release and the success of it will likely hinge on their ability to support a high quality airliner project for both platforms and offer added value with the range of engine options that includes the A330neo. Time will tell!
