We’ve got a new Brief Room episode from the IL-2 Sturmovik team talking about a core feature for the IL-2 Korea sim that is coming up soon. The new episode shows off not only some details behind the new feature but it also gives us a good look some of the new UI for the sim which looks like a big step forward for the series.
Summing up some of what we’ve learned
We’ve got another episode talking about IL-2 Korea and this time its all about the new Regiment Commander feature. There’s been a fair bit of discussion here and elsewhere about the feature and this video helps to detail some of what the system will do.
They are saying that there are two big changes to single player experiences. Pilot Career is now a Commanders Career. The player will take on the role of the commander and manage the resources of the squad. You’ll select pilots for specific positions and assign their missions.
They did touch on dynamic campaigns and decided not to go that route as they want to instead tell the story and history of the Korean War conflict from both sides. They talk about day to day newspaper reports very much being a part of the experience. Interesting. I don’t think it will fully satisfy those looking for something more dynamic and I suspect they are underplaying how big of a job it would be but we have an answer at least.
They talk a fair bit about the interface and making it friendly and approachable. They don’t want you to feel like you’re playing a mathematics simulator is the joke that was made here.
There are two other features discussed. Large bomber formations are going to be a thing in this sim so that will factor in as will a new time skip feature. The later will, when flying long distances, “remove some boring stuff and keep the gameplay filled with events.” And of course you can choose not to do the time skip.

There’s also a new Museum section which appears to double as both a reference and guide for materials but also a way to brush up on controls and even look at diagrams of the aircraft cockpits. They also talk about how even ground vehicles will be on display in the museum and that they, in 2024, have reached detail levels that they will look good up close both in the sim and on display here.

I do want to add too that they have now confirmed that the remaining unrevealed aircraft is the F-84G which you can see in one of the interface shots above. It was a key type with a significant number of sorties flown so it should be an interesting addition to the list.
I had only some time to get through the presentation so I may have missed a few things but hopefully that sums up some key points revealed today!
