FlightSim Studio AG have let us know that their 727-200F release is coming up. The release date has been set for August 8! Here’s what we know as well as a video released a few weeks ago showcasing some of the sounds for the jet. Let’s have a look.

Nearing release

Classic airliner freighter options in MSFS get a boost with FlightSim Studio AG’s 727-200F. The development group are set to release their 727 Freighter release on August 8 at or around 08:00 UTC. Some testers and content creators will be providing previews and testing prior to release starting on August 1 with the embargo lifting at 00:00 UTC.

They have also told us that the implementation of the GNS-XLS system has been delayed in-favour of working on an enhanced INS system. The feature will be added in 1-2 months according to the update.

Screenshots above and this video below showcase the jet’s visuals and sounds.

Keep an eye out for more information on the company’s website!

  1. Looks pretty good, and one of my favorite airliners. A little wary of the company after their a E-jets release, though they point out on the product page that they have no intention of doing a release like that again. I’ll probably wait for the passenger version anyway since that’s what I really want.

I’m impressed they are adding an old school INS, an optional auto throttle, and several assistant features to help those who are more used to an FMS doing all the calculating for them, as well as having to fly this 3-pilot airplane solo. Also the “EFB” is a clipboard, which a lot of other old planes feature, but everything combined indicates they put a huge amount of thought into this.

A little caution is probably warranted. I like the E170/175 but it has plenty of quirks. Hopefully this one is a rather different release.

If this doesn’t work out, SimWorks Studios plus FSReborn are teaming up for a 727 as well. Couple of options coming!

  2. My dad used to Captain these things, said it was his favorite ‘liner of all that he flew.

So definitely looking forward to the reviews and such.

Buuut…it has to be done to at least the standard of FlyJSims version, because that truly spoiled me (in a good way).

Hopefully it hits a similar level!

That’s awesome the personal connection. Love how that interweaves with the more general history of the type. Especially because they are still flying some!

  3. My dad was a mechanic for TWA, and absolutely loves the 727, also a favorite of all time. He repeatedly and often bores all manner of non-enthusiasts with stories about 727s at parties and family events. 727 has a lot of love from airline folks and enthusiasts. But I concur, it has to be done right. Having virtual assists I am fine with as long as I can also do it myself. That’s one of my favorite features in the PMDG DC-6 and the Redwing Connie.

To be frank, when FSim announcing this back in June, I was a bit annoyed. They had just announced a basically 6 month delay in the custom FMS for the E-Jets, and then came out with this. I was also annoyed with the freighter being first, and no timeline when a passenger version might come. Like Stryker, that’s the variant I really want.

For reference, SWS/FSReborn are not planning to do the INS system in the 727. They feel the system isn’t documented well enough to do so. Just Flight are doing one though for their A300, and presumably their 747 Classic, and FSim is evidently doing a rendition of an INS here, so perhaps SWS/FSReborn will change their tune.
