We’ve got a pretty big set of status updates from SimWorks Studios surrounding their growing line-up of Van’s RV aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The latest update includes news of the RV-8’s release as well as some feature and code updates for their already released RV-10 and RV-14 products. Let’s have a look!

RV-8 released to website, Marketplace soon

First up, SimWorks Studios latest Van’s RV aircraft release is the RV-8. The release comes with both the tail dragger and tricycle gear variants, 7 included liveries, and 2 and 3-bladed propeller options. On the avonics side there’s both analogue and G3X cockpit option as well as support for both PMS50 and TDS GTNXi. Some of the “extras” are a FPS friendly aerobatic smoke effect from Parallel 42 and propwash flutter animation just to name some of the highlight features.

Thanks to an early paintkit release, the aircraft already has additional liveries popping up on Flightsim.to.

The aircraft is available from the SimWorks Studios website for €14.99 or wait for the Marketplace release which is expected to happen quickly where the price will be set at $19.99 USD.

More Van’s Aircraft updates

Meanwhile, SimWorks Studios are returning to their RV-10 and RV-14 aircraft (see full reviews for the RV-10 here and RV-14 here) to bring some updates to both.

The first to receive updates will be the RV-10 which they report is ready for testing. They are working on some quirks of the integration with PMS50 and TDS GTNXi panels and ensuring that the autopilot performs as it should. They say the ETA for this update is August.

Meanwhile the RV-14 is also getting some updates some of which are a bit complicated. Originally the aircraft came with a GNS530 as an option with GTN750 embedded. GTN750 updates, however, meant that the players would need to mod the airplane to make it compatible with the latest release. So instead, the newer Working Title GNS530 is going to be the default navigator and the new Working Title G3X can communicate with it making it a good option. The GTN750 will still be available for PC players as a mod that can be installed (with a restart).

Code changes behind the scenes will upgrade the code to the latest standard and the ESI500 standby instrument will see its code changed from XML to JavaScript.

More updates from SWS are due tomorrow on their Facebook page.
