I reported earlier today about a brewing controversy with the latest update of the DCS: Sinai map where a small northern section of the map was removed. The developer, OnReTech, has reported now that they will be restoring that section of the map.

Map to be restored

Just to quickly rehash the issues, yesterday’s DCS World update included a series of significant changes to the DCS: Sinai map by developer OnReTech. The most recent update added over a hundred points of interest, a half dozen new airfields, tweaks and improvements across the map … and it also removed a section of the map too. The removal was unannounced and only after people began flying over the map did they notice what had happened between patches.

Developer OnReTech has now published a follow-up message saying that the section of the map featuring northern Israel will be restored.

Dear friends and pilots.

On behalf of our company, we apologize for this error. The removal of this part of the map was an internal error and misunderstanding.

We will soon return everything to its place before the early access version (Northern part of the map). Having checked everything again beforehand.

Thank you for your understanding, we really value the opinion of users, and have done everything possible to solve this problem. Thanks again for your understanding.

OnReTech on the DCS World forums

The messaging is more positive than the post earlier in the day and seems to indicate a full restoration will happen. They also report that they are negotiating, presumably with Eagle Dynamics, to get an update issued sooner than the next DCS World full update which would be several weeks away.

  1. I was taken aback by the removal of the northern detail and expressed my consternation. I am just glad it is coming back. I flew around the norther parts quite a bit and really just wanted a map with the whole of Israel. Besides, most of us who have Sinai already have Syria. I still wonder if international events precipitated the removal.

glad they got their perspective straightened out and not only did the right thing, but did it immediately.

Certainly feedback from the community was swift and justifiably so. Changing course was good!

  3. we need our DCS patch drama don’t we – seems like recently there’s been a few things that have sparked the ire of the community. Not that that in itself if too far from the norm, its just the patching cycle being spread out now means there’s built up energy from a lot of people.

Anyway – good to see its going to be resolved

It seems to come up quite a bit these days. It’d be great if we had an unremarkable update with only cool things!

      1. One day maybe – but the community is fickle and no matter what’s been provided, someone isn’t happy which is a shame
