I wrote about the teasers yesterday and now VIRPIL have revealed their plans for the VIRPIL Controls Advanced Flight Yoke Project. Let’s have a look!

Kickstarter yoke with swappable controls

This is a pretty interesting development and the first time that VIRPIL have dipped their toes into the civilian flight sim market. Their stated goal is to create the best yoke at an attainable price. VIRPIL do tend to create premium priced controls so their target price is E500. Not unheard of in this space.

VIRPIL are intending to offer high quality components, contactless sensors, a lot of adjustments, and an ecosystem of swappable yoke handles. They’ve already shown off both a Boeing style control and an Embraer style handlebar yoke. Should be interesting to say the least.

Force Feedback was addressed and they say that this project will not have FFB. They are however working with an industry veteran according to the Q&A so future products may feature it.

Interesting as well is their intent to offer the project as a kickstarter first. This is to assess interest in the project and see what an initial order might look like. They say the risk to backers should be low as they are an established company and refunds if the project doesn’t work out will be processed. Backers will also get a discount on the initial order if it does go through. A nice bit of incentive.

Read more about this over on the VIRPIL Facebook page.

What do you think? Will you back a VIRPIL yoke system? Which yoke style would you like to see? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Hmmmmmm… that would go well with my PMDG 737. 🙂

  2. The yoke handles look fantastic, but the bases are really turning me off for some reason. It is too utilitarian making it seem out of place in a civilian aircraft.

I have a Virpil joystick, throttle, and two switch panels, and I love them all, but I will pass on the yoke. I have an old CH yoke that despite being very plastic and toy-like, has really great action and accuracy (you can say this about every CH peripheral ever made). I don’t even use it enough to justify buying anything else. If I ever did decide to get something more premium, I would prefer the look of the Honeycomb products for civil aviation.

I’m glad Virpil are branching out with this though and want them to succeed. It’s great to have multiple quality peripherals to choose from.

  3. Is Vipril Russian? If yes, I will not support Putin’s economy.

    1. The founders were mostly Belarusian, however, they moved the company to Lithuania several years ago (HQ and manufacturing). When the invasion happened, they even changed their company logo temporarily to Ukranian colours. I don’t think you’ll find invasion supporters there.
